thanks guys. the local stealer got the part number right for the crush washer. only had one in stock.

 

I've always just reuse mine, never had any leaks or issues. I usually just snug them down good and don't bother with the torque wrench. The only thing I usually bother with torquing is spark plugs and suspension components.

 

i was getting a few drops from the overflow after using torque wrench. i tighten by hand reusing the crush washer and no leaks. torque wrench is overrated.

 

please don't ever work on engines then..

 

+1 I agree in today's aluminum part world. Threaded fittings just aren't as forgiving anymore.

 

I service mine every couple of years...I only get 3 quarts out,I refill 3 quarts 10 ounces and then do the level check procedure using a snapon vin specific scanner that shows me the temp. It's pretty simple...I use a hand pump to refill, it screws rite onto the toyota ws fluid quart bottles.

 

not a problem - wrench was too big for 15in-lb. and 15 is a little light in the loafers. maybe ok for a new crush washer. i have a better feel by hand - no leaks since.

 

i got the kiwi3 rolling and she is nice. has tons of toyota pids including the tranny temps. i will spend a little time over the weekend to compare temp mode to the pids -

Another change on the newer A750's besides the temp. check range.
The link 07 sport put up has the older / higher temp. range and shows the drain plug torque at 21 ' #'s.
My '12 RM shows both the drain and overflow plugs at 15 ' #'s.
As before, I'm not sure what MY this changed.

i compared the kiwi3 obd fusion combo to the oil temp light. The scan readings are dead-on with the oil temp light. The oil light came on at 97F and started flashing at 115F. so fusion's tranny oil temp PID is reporting exactly what ECU is reading. very nice and not bad for a $120 wireless setup.



weather - the ambient oil temp scan reading was 76F in my garage. weather app at 72, my HVAC system was at 78 on the sunny side of house. this was 11am with the outside temp still climbing. the high for the day is 83F

 

Was the temp check mode going by the pan or Tc outlet temp?

 

No idea.

They're numbered temp1 & temp2 in fusion. The light was in sync with T1.

T1 was always 1F lower than T2 so I assume T1 is the pan & T2 is TC?

The pan is most likely since the pan is where the overflow bolt is located?

 

Yup, that's the pan then. I'll post here when I do my 07, we'll see what the ultragauge has to say.

 

Sounds like you have it right tsb. MyScanGuage also shows the converter just above the pan when idling.
A double check is to watch the temps while you shift to any gear with your foot on the brake - the converter will jump up and the pan will slowly climb. Having both temps showing all the time you can really tell whether the converter is locked or not. When it unlocks on the highway the temps can get near 20 degrees apart and they will be the same or within a couple of degrees after a minute or so once the converter locks up. Great to watch when going over mountain passes or while towing (or both !).

 

My 07 is checked between 97° and 115°F as confirmed by my ultragauge. From now on I will be using my ultragauge to check the fluid level. Pics and video to come when I have time. The WS fluid looks great this time, much unlike the first time I serviced this tranny. I used maxlife this time, but if I'd had WS on hands I'd have used it based on how good the fluid looked this time around. I have a mix of WS and maxlife in there, shifts great maybe slightly more positive/firm, I'm not at all concerned about mixing the two. This is my first drain/fill with maxlife but I've been using it for years on other vehicles with no issues.
It's been 20k hard miles and almost 4 years since my last service on this tranny,with lots of towing, excessive idling, and daily short trips of less than 1 mile to work. I expected the fluid to be burnt, honestly. It looked good though. Pics to come later.

I completed a drain and refill and am in the process of checking the level to ensure I put enough. Should the oil trickle out of the overflow plug while the truck is still on or off? I put in 4 qts and there is no trickle while the truck is running. I'm going to put in more, just confirming while I wait on a ride to the Auto Store.

 

Check it while running. If you have a temp gauge, check it between 97° and 115°. If you don't have a gauge, just use the temp check mode.

 

You are using the 5mm Allen head bolt at the front of the transmission pan, correct?

Correct, I'm using a 5mm at the front of the transmission pan. Gonna pick up 2 quarts from Oriellys once my wife gets home and it'll give the transmission a chance to cool down. Unfortunately, I don't have a temp gauge to use. A little over 4 quarts came out and I only had 4 quarts to refill so I'm guessing I should be good with 1/2 a quart, but I'll pick up 2 just to be on the safe side.
