Hello everyone, I'm a little embarrassed this is my first question/post, but it's really been bugging me. I recently purchased my first Tacoma, she's an 05' TRD. We also have an 05' 4Runner sport. My question: on the 4Runner when you use the FOB to lock the doors it beeps at you. On the Tacoma, it doesn't.. Should it? If so any ideas on a fix? Where is the beeping unit located? Thanks for any input, it's random but it's driving me crazy not knowing:annoyed: . I like the Toyota beep, I'm not always in sight to see the lights flash and I like to know if the doors are locked. Thanks again!

Does your truck have entune? I know on the newer trucks like my 17 I can turn the locking beep off.

I/we have the same combo

The older Tacoma has a horn honk option, not a beep like the 4Runner. I'm not sure if you need the alarm add-on to get the horn honk option on the Tacoma, but they don't beep like the 4Runner.

I'm sorry, I don't know what the entune is? How would I find out?

It's like some stupid fancy head unit that can control features of the vehicle. I assume you don't. I'm doing a little looking but I am only finding info for trucks 2009 and newer.

I dont remember if my first gen honked or beeped, but my second gen beeps. Also the beeping module is mounted kind of behind the driver side head light. Its between the headlight and the radiator, I belive mounted on the support there. It is a small black unit with a cable going to it, with quick disconnect. I bumped mine doing something, and it stopped beeping, reconnected and it happily beeps again.

I love my Yoda's! Although I must be honest, the 4Runner is the wife's and she rarely lets me drive it... so I bought my own, haha.
Is there a way to check to see if you have the alarm add-on? I have the flashing car/key light and the panic button. I'm not sure past that? Thanks again!

Get in the truck, press lock button on remote. Unlock door with the lever on the door and open the door. That should tell you.

Thanks! I will check that, I'm not getting a beep or a honk. Just the flashing park lights. And the doors do lock.

Nope, I don't think I have an alarm. I'll lock the door and pull the lever and it just unlocks and opens...

What happens if you press the panic button?

I'm not sure, but the horn honk on lock/unlock option might be in the keyless system that you DO have. There is a procedure(kinda like the hokey pokey)you have to do to activate the horn honk option. It's worth a try?

Pushing panic button = horn honking and parking lights flashing.
I will try and find info on the procedure, thanks again.

Update: I have done the programming procedure listed above. I also looked for the "little black box" by battery, it's not there. Checked wires and still no lock beep or horn. I have the security/alarm sticker on the drivers side window also. I guess there's no locking beep or horn on the 05's? Thanks for everyone's help and input. At least I now know.

My buddy has an 05 and his beeps. Previous owner probably disabled it somehow, maybe by removing the whole module or just disabling it.

I can try to take a few pics tomorrow in the light, if you like. Not sure if the 05 is the same as the 12 or not, but if you are interested I will give it a go.
