    Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum, but I'm glad to be here. What a great resource for Tacoma owners, and yes, the forum is kind of addictive!

I just bought a '10 Black Sand Pearl access cab, 4.0, 4x4, Auto, Sport Tacoma. I love the truck, but I've noticed a ticking sound coming from what sounds like the driver's side of the engine under load from 1,500 r.p.m. to around 2,500. It reminds me of the sound of a slightly leaking exhaust header that I used to get on my old Corvette...

It's not too loud, and I can't hear it at highway speeds because of wind noise, but I wonder if this is the "Tacoma Tick" that I've read so much about on the forum.

I've ordered a cascade theromo-acoustic hoodliner to install, which I hope will take care of the problem. (Found a nice link: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t199547.html)

So, is this the "tacoma tick" that I keep reading about? (Or at least one of the "ticks" that I've read about -- I realize that there's one at idle as well..) Also, if I install the hoodliner, will this void my warranty?

Thanks, and I'll post pix of my new ride once the road's cleaned up and I can wash her for the first time..been kinda snowy in West Virginia...

Isn't there a MOD out that fixed the ticking problem? My 2010 does it too, but I just live with it.

    Yes - there's this mod: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/43632-ticking-engine-one-fix.html

I'm going to do this too -- hoping that both this mod and the hoodliner will fix/muffle the sound.

Is it just me, or does anyone think that the old 3.4 V-6 sounded so much better than the new 4.0? I love the new Tacoma, but that engine in my '97 never ticked, had plenty of power, and kind of sounded like a "baby V-8"...

Its not just you.. My 2000 was was better sounding.. I think my 09 4.0 sounds horrible.. Not too impressed, but I guess if its normal I can live with it.

Sounds like the tick. TBH though, I don't think it sounds all that bad... at WOT. With the drop in k&n and TRD cat-back.... she sounds pretty good for a v6 I must say :D The ticking is about the same as my G35 was... guess I'm just used to it.

Know I am rehashing a old thread here but just bought a 2010 double cab 4x4 2 weeks ago and I am also hearing this ticking. However, mine is different than most have described on here due to the fact that mine only does it every once in a while.

I would say ever 20 start ups. I heard it when I left the house and it was still there at low rpm when I got to work. Coming from driver side area. The odd thing is is that I can turn the engine off and start right back up and the ticking goes away??

I would think if it was a rubber washer/rubbing issue that I would hear it all the time. Thanks for any insight someone may have.
