I 100% percent absolutely garentee you it does not have a vacuum add in it. I'll put my truck title on it.

Now there is a breather hose that comes off of it so maybe he mistook that for a vacuum hose

I have rebuilt 3 2nd gen add actuators now by tearing them apart and resold ring the motor wires

Spencer and I hooked up the breather hose. I have a crappy memory so my recall is suspect, but I'm pretty sure Spencer's truck had and electrical and a vacuum connection on the ADD actuator because I remember being surprised that it had something as old skool as a vacuum line connected to it.

Pretty certain it utilizes both electric and vacuum components. I know it wasn't the breather that I was messing with.

@xweslingx had his front differential out a couple months back, maybe he can help out with what all is under there

I rebuilt the unit on my 06, my 09, and now my 12. I am very well versed in what is there and how they operate. I can tell you what pin does what on the electrical connector.

There is only one part number for add actuator for all 2nd gens. So unless he somehow custom retrofitted a vacuum system then his was electric

I actually have the actuator from my 09 sitting in a storage bin I can show you the internals. I was gonna lock my Diffs permanently and gut the actuator and use it to keep the Diff locked

Is this vacuum or just a vent hose?

That breather hose goes to a clamp on top of the Diff, then up into engine bay from there. There is also a breather hose from the Diff itself. They run up together

I'll concede that it could very well be a breather. It doesn't look like it goes to anything like an actuator now that I've gotten a better view of it, so that's pretty good evidence that it's a breather.

And many thanks to you for providing some great photo documentation to help us resolve this disagreement, haha. :D

Yea this front add this is a stupid little bastard part...

even after getting a new one, modding it to fix the issues like the points and gasket and tabs, I already have gotten the random blinky light a couple times.

Sure am glad I've got old-skool, low-tech, manual hubs...on my Tacoma anyway. The T4R has the ADD BS. :(

Hmm, I swore it was a vacuum hose. Spencer's was the only 2nd gen I've done this on so I don't have too much experience. Either way, hook it up and figure it out so you can wheel :luvya:

End of the year I'm doing FJ case swap and front tube and I'm yanking the 4wd computer right out. Worst thing they could have put in this truck

Edit: the reason I have so much experience with the 4wd system is mine is constantly breaking wtf

yea i hear you, it is a love hate thing, getting out in the rain to turn hubs is lame and in the weather if the E system works flawlessly things are totally fine....

but it likes to crap out like we all know...

so eventually I think in my case I will do the fj tube and add some sticks in the cab. they have a hub kit offered now, but thinking the fj tube and leaving the front shaft spinning all the time will be alright

Haha, the versatility makes up for the inconvenience. I like being able to run 2lo. Gives the lame, flat, Florida wheeling a little more of a challenging element and keeps me from breaking the cv axles as much. It's also useful if I need to tow something really heavy. But yeah, it does kinda suck having to jump out and lock or unlock the hubs depending on how I want to attack the obstacle and it sucks even more if I get lazy and wind up having to get out and lock the hubs in the middle of a mud hole. Of course, once I regear, I should be able to just run with the hubs locked most of the time so it'll make things a lot easier. Being Florida, we don't have much need to run around in 4WD on the road, but I can see where manual hubs would suck in a NY winter...especially if the selectors were frozen under ice when you needed to lock them in or out.
