I am getting 17.5-18 average on my daily commute. If I pulled my Prinsu rack off I could easily get the same 20 mpg @shakerhood is getting. I was averaging 20-21.5 before I put the roof rack on.

I don't get it. In town I get 15-17 depending how little fun I have. On the highway, at least in CA, everyone is doing 70-75 MPH and I get about 18-19 MPG. I literally have never topped 20 on any trip, ever.

That's the issue. Going over 60mph and it drops for me, if I stay around 60mph I can get 20ish MPG

I keep mine at or below 70 mph. Most of the time I have my cruise set at dead on 70 for my commute. I have also noticed that if it is below 65* outside my mileage drops off some.

Edit: The hotter it gets the better mileage I get above 65* also. 95-105* here in Texas I get great mileage. I also avoid ethanol fuel like the plague.

I have been thinking on some sort of old school heat riser intake to keep the mileage up in the winter time. There is ample heat available under the hood with the catalytic converter being right off the manifold. @TBV

Re mileage - There are a lot of factors involved. 1) Going up hill - Flat landers have a huge advantage. 2)Speed - Stay under 60 on a level road and you will get 22 or more (done that) 3) Not paying attention to the fuel flow indicators Toyota has given you. 4)Stop and go traffic (A huge consumer) That's just a start. Bottom line - There is no free lunch. In the old days we used to put a Manifold Vacuum Gauge on the dash and drive with it...Amazing what resisting the temptation to push the right peddle down does for you :)

This is all true. All winter long I get 16.5 to 17 or so during my weekly commute. I jump to 18.5 to 19 as soon as the temps warm up. I was curious if it's the winter blend fuel that is the issue?

Not even sure we get winter blend fuel here in Texas other than diesel. We do have lots of crazy weather though. In the 40s one day and in the 80-90s the next and temperatures definitely effect my mileage. Same tank of fuel 45* one day 15-16 mpg. Next day 85* 17-18 mpg.

Winter blend combined with intake temperatures combined with warm-up idling combined... lots of factors to decreased mileage during winter months.

Overall I can't complain about the mileage. A stock v6 manual is advertised at 17-21 I get 16-20 with sliders, skid plates, bed rack, roof rack, tent, steel rear bumper, tools, bigger tires and a little lift. I wish 6th was a little taller for better mpg at 75 but overall I'm pretty happy.

i'm not complaining either, and i keep my truck light. my mileage comes from my right foot. give me a Geo Metro and i'll manage to get under 10mpg out of it. on a good day, that is.

Does anyone have a slight clunk sometimes when starting your truck? The clunk happens right when starter is engaged

Dang I wish. I average 14 these days, 10-12 in the city, 14-16 highway. But that's with a little more lift than you, 285s, and my tent drags more.

And I always drive with fun mode enabled...

Bought my 2015 with a little over 13,000 on it. I found shifting to be very notchy and almost had to come to a complete stop before I could shift back into first. My 92 shifts much better. Replaced the trans oil with MT 90 last week and was surprised by the noticeable improvement in how it shifts and how easy it is to shift back into first now. Well worth the time and $35 of oil.

I don't know how you guys drive this manual truck without pedal to the metal...

When that light turns green I'm racing for pink slips.
