So I took my Tacoma in today because of a really annoying squeak coming from the front passenger side. I mimicked the noise for him and what does he say? He asked why there is sealant around my headlights and I told him because I had them painted and wanted to be extra sure no moisture would get in. "I'm almost sure the squeak is there because you had to remove the headlights." Ummmmm...what!? Does that make any sense to anyone???

So now Toyota has my truck and are tearing it apart. Couldn't even give me a loaner vehicle.

I would have expected op to exhaust his options before running to the dealership, hopefully he sprayed something on the bushings to see if that is what was causing the squeak, which it wasn't.

I got a call back and apparently a Bushing was missing from the radiator support bracket that was causing the noise. Sounds a little fishy...but hey if the noise is gone! When asked about the leaf springs, he said all he could do was wash around the bushings for that since dirt is usually the culprit for that noise. But since I'm getting new suspension on next week, I'm not entirely concerned.
I asked about a software update for shifting and the trans "searching for gears" and he didn't know about an update for the vehicle until I mentioned this.

While I've got it in the shop, is there anything else I should have them check?

And yes, I sprayed every moving part trying to eliminate the squeak

Perfectly normal... wait until you get the squeak in the passenger side A pillar.... that's going to get annoying real quick.

Little update. Got a call back and apparently it was my @CaliRaisedLed bracket rubbing against something. So I'm heading to pick it up now since I got off work. Doesn't sound right to me

We have found that some of the pass front body to frame mount bushings were messed up and making noise. Not cab mount, one all the way in front.

The tech wasn't there when I picked the vehicle up but I came home and wanted to inspect what he did..it looks like all he did was oil up that top bolt with the Bushing. I in no way touched that when I installed this light bar.

20170506_182116.jpg driver side. No bushings on the brackets for the light bar. Did the dealership just screw me for $150??

I would personally not have paid the $150. Seems like they wanted to make up excuses for the squeak based on your mods. If he was already blaming your seal on your lights for the noise, this is not a surprise that they drummed up some BS to charge you for it. I'd contact Toyota Corporate and let them know you are unsatisfied with how they went about fixing the problem. Better yet, wait a few weeks when that oil dries up and the noise starts again...

I just read this...wait a second, it was missing a bushing and they still charged you $150? Correct me if I am wrong OP, but why did you pay them? Am I missing something?

I'm kicking myself for paying that amount. But I'm even more pissed in the 2 min it took me to take the grille off, I immediately noticed what they actually did

This is what I would do in your situation. Contact your dealership and ask for the service manager and politely ask if he can review what was fixed on your vehicle to stop the noise. If he mentions that the bushing was replaced---ask why you were charged for it since it should be covered under warranty. When he gives you a BS excuse about your mods, politely thank him and contact Toyota corporate and report it. I don't see how you can't get reimbursed in this situation unless I'm missing something.
