I'm in need of something similar. Thinking either mount in prinsu roof rack or get a hitch carrier

Posting this here from my build thread to see if i can get any inspirational ideas...

I'm thinking about trying to think up something along the lines of a backpacking tent rtt. I only need to sleep in it, not host a whole high school dance party.

Something small that would flip off the side of the truck or to the front so it didn't take up much roof rack real estate.

Any ideas of something to start with? Last thing i need is another project, but if it gets me a comfy place to sleep...

I have a beer pong table that folds into 4s, but if it folded in half, it'd be a good footprint. Then I'd need to figure out the rest.

What about something built out of a Yakima/Thule box? It could fold up into the box and be aerodynamic, but then fold out with enough room for 1. Something similar to the FSR tents?

Haven't seen it, or at least a small one.

That was my first idea. But thinking more like half the length which would be easy to do. The combination of that plus this folding table could make for a possible starting point.

The guy who tried to make his own RTT ended up spending almost as much money building his tent as it would have cost to just buy one.

Nobody makes what I'd like. Huge, heavy, gas mileage killing portable houses aren't my thing.

I've got a few tents and was going to try to make the platform in the topper more comfortable. But having another spot would be nice so i didn't have to have the bed clear for sleeping. I haven't seen tent cots, but sounds like a ground tent would be pretty similar.

That's what someone on here did... too me I don't care if it's on the ground. It's still elevated so not that bad. Depends on your definition of small. It folds into 3rds flat

    I'll check into them.

Not worried about being off the ground. More having it fixed somewhere and not taking up space that could be for something else.

My buddy just brings a hammock. Ties it between a tree and the jeep or the jeep and my truck. If it's nice weather, it's solid.
