I know there is a group buy going on right now, mebbe I need to get in on this. I wasn't impressed when I tried turning off traction control. People who actually use the PC seem to really like it!!

there are some good posts talking about how it's useful for the MT guys. speaking for myself throttle control is solid now, and i can easily scratch the tires in 2nd if I'm not careful, and I'm talking about just brushing the throttle. it made my truck fun, responsive, and easy to drive again. it's a good bandaid, but still a proper tune will probably be a miracle for the throttle response.

The more I drive the MT, the more Im getting the feeling that the people toyota has programming this up all drive automatic priuses to / from work, never driven a manual in their life, and only see it as some sort of computer assignment not a vehicle with a storied past and a history of reliable utility. The linear cable to throttle body, port injection, no funny business when I press clutch/brake/gas might be a lost art in today's fly-by-wire system, but they offered something that Im just not feeling on the new cars-- predictability. Gun the gas and watch the engine roar to life now, not when the computer feels like it. And if it is true, that the TB only opens up so much no matter how hard I floor it-- Yeah just watch me put in a 2:1 gearset in there. The tacoma is certainly good, in the sense its the only mid-size pickup with a 6 spd on a modern v6 engine, and I will keep buying only MT as long as I can, but something really needs to be flashed on this engine control that will let it know I want to use it how I see fit (exactly the reason I have the MT) because it certainly has the power. Other than the strange dips in power, the tacoma itself is pretty much everything I need in a modern vehicle.

Orange Virus tune in the works, y'know. ETA this summer. the main thing they said they are addressing is the wonky DBW throttle mapping. we're all hoping it will clean up the messy throttle maps.

Not for noting, but it has the word Virus in the name. And without the prefix 'anti' I'm pretty sketched out.

Have you seen the business model of most "antivirus" companies? That should sketch you out more than the bubonic plague.

Ehhh, I'll take some of them over the Russian Mafia running all the ransomware issues we are seeing these days. Well, some of them at any rate. Symantec is probably just a money laundering scheme for the Russian Mafia.

I would like to hit the 3000 post count tonight. Somebody ask me a question or two. Anything is fair game as long as I can answer without incriminating myself.

Happy to oblige. Sounds like you may be long in the tooth like me. Assuming you learned to drive in a manual, if not a car/truck, maybe a tractor? Who taught you how to drive?

Good question. Not that old but 40 is approaching quickly. I learned to drive in a 1970 Chevy pickup. 4 speed manual. My dad bought that truck brand new and taught me to drive it when I was about 14. My dad has been gone for almost 20 years but I still have that truck.
