That TSB only applied to certain 01-04 trucks. Yours was never eligible.

How low? Last motor I had had almost no oil and that's what happened, bad con rod bearing, I was only a quart lower than full here so I feel like it really shouldn't be that bad the knocking just freaked me out.. not gonna worry about it too much, I'll just drive it till I hear weird noises

This is what I'm debating. Just ordered CVJ remans and do I send cores back or keep and rebuild as spares? 75 core charge each side.

Did it sound similar to rod knock?

I know sometimes piston slap and valve ticking can sound similar to it.

Ive actually got a video Ill throw up, I couldn't really tell but it did sound like a very minor rod knock. Ive never heard piston slap or valve ticking before. When I had rod knock in the last motor I could hear it while driving especially when I let off the throttle, this knock was only at idle and I couldn't hear anything while driving...

My son managed to do this. Thank God it happened in the driveway and not the highway. He said he didn't dog it or jump any curbs but that it was pulling real bad before it happened...

    Common.

Easy fix. Glad it was near home.

19+ year old vehicle. Parts wear. Please replace with Toyota parts. They are the best.

I think I know what you're hearing, I've got a couple exhaust leaks that make the truck sound weird, definitely isn't the knocking though, was listening closely for it.

As others have said, it's not your sons fault.

The problem is this isn't well known outside of our community, yes it's good practice to replace ball joints on any vehicle but nowhere near what a Tacoma needs.

Yeah I was gonna say it sounds like exhaust. My motor sounds about the same to be honest and it has some hardcore ticking when it's cold. I wouldn't think much of it until you start hearing it during around town driving.

Also it is time for CB setup round two. This time with Mr. Wilson and a shorter cabling setup...

    ahhh a real BJ failure!

Do yourself a favor and replace BOTH not just the one. When once side blew on me..the other followed suit 4 weeks later. Use ONLY OEM joints.

I'm on stock BJ I'm pretty sure with 129k...think I should replace them or not? Ive been conversing with myself and all the BJ failures have me kind of paranoid...
