You don't need any of the stuff you suggested lol; However you can do lights! LED bars and lots more. You can never have enough lights!

Search Craigslist; I found my OEM running boards for $100, my dealer wanted $400, I don't hardcore offroad so sliders were of no use to me. Plus they look good.

Well ,we are right off of a main thoroughfare for the state, so not really. That said, it IS pretty rural...

I think they are just compensating for a lack of a decent football team and losing the VA Commonwealth cup 13 years in a row. Sure they have a good B-Ball team, but we made it to March Madness this year too...

Sliders can also protect you in the urban jungle against shopping carts and A-holes that open there doors into other vehicles.

After a lot of thought, I think this is the way I am gonna go. My 1st gen was saved several times by my running boards. I figure I can get a decent set of sliders so i can take it through some trails around here with less concern and put the balance towards paying the taco off.

I like the softopper a lot, but utah summers aren't exactly known for rain. Plus anywhere I go, I can usually set up a small tent if needed or a bivy bag in the bed. Maybe next time...

I beg to differ. You just need to buy the right style to use as steps.

Correct. Ordered the @RelentlessFab bolt on flat sliders with the fill plates and I think they are a better step than the factory steps I took off (larger surface and better grip). Plus they offer protection and provide a lift point for my hi-lift.

Those are the ones I had been looking at primarily.

It says some holes may need to be drilled bigger / minor mod req'd. Was that the case with you?

Nope....it bolted right up for me using the existing holes and no need to modify anything. There was a bracket on the passenger side that held some wires that didn't line up with a hole on the sliders but I removed the bracket and haven't had any issues (it'd be easy enough to spend a few minutes with a drill to get the bracket to mount if you wanted to).

Do you have retro fit headlights? If not, that would be an excellent, functional use of your bonus money.

I like how everyone on the internet is a smart financial planner with an impressive portfolio of strategically made investments and retirement plans that allow them to still spend their own money foolishly. :oldglory:
