how large did you have to enlarge the holes to use on your bed bolts. And any rust issues?

    *bump with new question*

Do you HAVE to enlarge the holes?

You need to make them 1/2 inch. No rust. but you can paint them if you want

^^^^ X100... took 10 minutes with a step drill bit and I've used them dozens of times. Not bad at all for a mod that costs less than $10

I havent taken the time to remove my bed bolt, but I'm wonder if the army d-rings even need to be enlarged?

Cant I just hammer it onto the bolt like how you would release the washer?

Or is the hole just too small?

I was looking around for the uni-bits today and they are $$$$$$. I wanted one that would do 3/4" holes for potential future use and they are $60!!!!

I stopped by Harbor Freights hoping for a cheap 1 but they didnt even have them in the store.

Its just too small man. It take maybe 2 mins to drill all 5 of them out. and you can get a 1/2" bit at lowe's or HD for like $5-$10

I was trying to save myself some money and a trip to the store.

The biggest drill bit I have right now is 3/8, which is the size of the hole

If you have a dremal or something you can grind it bigger but other then that you wouldn't be able to get it to fit. and you have to grind down the ridges on the bed bolts to get that washer off anyways and to get the d-ring on the bolt.

You dont have to grind down the ridges on the bolt.

You can hammer the washer off with a large socket and hammer.

Well then you may need to make the hole a tiny bit larger then 1/2" then on the D-ring because the bolt w/o the ridges is 1/2".

As another guy said, get a step drill bit.

Kinda spendy but they are super useful.

I decided to order a cheap set off ebay. Only $20 for 3 different sizes. So if even if they turn into shit, not a big deal...
Oh well, I guess I'll finish greasing my shafts. Gotta do the 2 front.

Yeah, I got a small one in one of those packs of bits you get at Autozone and I trash the hell out of it, but it keeps going... slowly. Dad's got a nice Snap-on one and it does the same job so easily you have to be careful!
