Reading they are using the same A2088 (noncanbus) or 2A88 (canbus) ballasts...to confirm 100% you'd want to call them. They are saying these have a max inrush of 4.4a each yet spec sheets elsewhere are saying combined 15A which is right at what ours is fused for, and I popped mine as well at least one other that didn't get a relay or up his fuse.

They may advise against a relay harness, but real experience on our trucks is that these can end up drawing more current than we are fused for. I would highly advise a relay.

Warm up is roughly 10 seconds which is about as good as it gets in this industry.

Good choice. I have this same kit and it works flawlessly. You will need to reverse the polarity on the leads coming off of the hid bulbs that plug into the factory headlight plug and for some reason I have found the rubber seal on XD bulbs are not always seated in the right groove....something to check before you struggle to twist the bulbs into the projector housing.

You don't need the relay harness as the XD ballasts are low draw on startup.

I disagree on both points. I have a set of the 2A88 hyluxtek ballasts sitting in my garage now and I can tell you they are not the same as the XD ballasts, at least externally. I can also tell you the hyluxtek ballasts do ignite quicker than the XD.

My personal experience with hid relays is that it introduces another set of wiring that has relays and connection points that can and do go wrong. The XD ballast does not draw enough amperage on startup to pop the headlight fuse (hence the slower warm up time) so I wouldn't mess with adding a rats nest of wires under the hood.

Just ordered the h11b kit with Phillips bulbs from Xenon Depot with the 20% off coupon. We'll see how they perform.

Thanks for the info. Good to have a warmup baseline to compare mine to.

Hylux have unbranded external casings available which is what I'm assuming the XD is using.

    IE: [IMG]

As far as I understand though, all of their ballasts should have the clear window back displaying the ASIC chip. Does the XD have this?

If these are in fact Hylux ballasts that are unchanged in specs from the branded A2088, the manufacturer supplied instructions with mine stated 20A is the minimum fuse required and ours is 15A. I blew 3 of them before validating the inrush rating and fuse rating requirements.

You state they are slower firing though and with them calling out low startup draw, it seems that at the minimum they may be spec'd differently, if not altogether different as you mention.

    Thanks for the additional info.
I can confirm that the ballasts from @XenonDepot do not have the clear window on the back displaying the chip.
I have no problem blowing a fuse yet, but only have used them a handful of times. I will contact XD for further confirmation, but do trust they know what they are doing and recommending to customers. Their relay harness is not as nicely laid out as the one that came with your kit, and would honestly be much more of a pain to route and wire under the hood. I was very happy when they told me that I did not have to use it.
    Any input @XenonDepot?
    Thanks

Sounds like they aren't Hylux then.

A2088 startup amps are listed at 8-10 amps too.

Definitely higher than what XD is listing

My ballasts had double sided foam on the back so it's impossible to tell if the clear part is there. Other than that it looks identical, down to the recessed rectangle for their sticker.

Has anyone had issues popping fuses with what Xenon Depot provides for installation?

Based on their specs for the ballasts, it shouldn't. You'd have about 5 amps of headroom in that 15 amp fuse.

I dont believe they are, and thanks for comparing the specs.
Also, thanks for your write-up on your instillation, as I used the same mounting locations for the ballasts as you.

I have not had even the slightest issue with them since January when I put them in. I keep my lights on auto and they start up perfect every time. XD swears these don't need relays and I have no reason not to believe them based upon my experience. Nothing wrong with using a relay if you want to, I just don't like introducing additional wiring if it isn't needed.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
I'm not neurotic... if they say I don't need one and nobody is having issues, I'd rather not go into adding extra relays if I can avoid it.
