I was the guy who usually manned the keg... after that, I fall off your plan.

Yeah, if only I had an extra $100k laying around... there'd be SO many other things I'd be more likely to buy instead.

My background from college was machining - spent more time in the northeastern machine shop than I did in class. Also helped machine 80% of my graduating class' capstone projects. I think every mechanical engineer should have a background in machining or some skills with it. I swear we're getting engineers coming in that barely know how to use a screwdriver and are designing stuff that's impossible to machine. I'm one of the few people who can use the machine shop here besides the machinist and I love it. I'd rather be in there than behind a desk on CAD...

Worse thing we ever did was hire a guy with 3d printing background... he thinks anything that can be printed can be machined. He lasted 6 months before he left just out of pure misery of rejected drawings and parts.

No Pro Grill yet - I am painting my "Mick Jagger" chees grader" grill like the ones in the link below - I think it will look good on the magnetic gray color - almost done - I bought one off ebay for $70 just in case I screw it up - I will still have my original -
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bbp-color-keyed-grille-mod.398636/

thers is a magnetic gray one in the thread someone else did and it came out way better than the all chrome grill

Yeah, that's what I meant by literally laying around. There'd have to be a lot of other things taken care of long before I drop $100k on a truck like that. I'd have to be in a position where I had $100k of play money sitting there burning a hole in my pocket.

Yeah, additive manufacturing is nothing like machine work. Working with him must have been a real hoot.

Yea man I hear that from a lot of people, it's better to know before than to try to learn machining after becoming a ME. I've got a little over 3 years in shop experience, with 2 years being manual work.

Adding material is a lot different than subtracting it lol

I'm a software engineer, which is not at all like the rest of you engineers.

I use black magic to make something out of nothing. None of it makes sense, not even to other software engineers, and none of it is simple. But hey, I love it!

Nice! No clue how many here, company is ~400,000 but I can't imagine that being all software engineers.

I nearly failed the few programming courses I took.

I absolutely hated it. I like networking much better. I actually enjoy writing configs for Cisco stuff, subnetting, planning and deploying WAPs, etc. and troubleshooting it.

I can totally relate because I'm the exact opposite. The few networking courses I took were either super confusing or they seemed like a previously solved problem that someone wanted me to learn. Much respect for enjoying it!

Yeah, a lot of people don't like networking.

Ironically, I'm not good at math but subnetting is a piece of cake to me. I don't do it often, but I can more or less do it in my head.

I used to mess with him - everytime he was looking for something in the labs or the shop I would be like dude.. just print it..

We had an intern that didn't know what a Phillips head screwdriver was... He called it the cross head....

I have a friend who consistently calls a slotted screwdriver a "straight blade screwdriver." I work with him so often on stuff that I caught myself doing it.

It doesnt need anything. To be streetable it would take new front blinkers, a headlight control and windshield wiper control stalk, and a shady inspection place. The headlight and wiper stalks were taken off to do the removable steering wheel.
