I'm almost positive they aren't "water proof". But I park in a garage at home and work so they don't see a whole lot of moisture. I've washed my truck plenty of times the last few years and I've never had a problem.

They have a magnet on the back so they stick right on that area of our trucks.

I should also mention these are free at Harbor Freight with a coupon. I've probably went through 7 or more the last five years of owning my truck. Not because they've died but because I have two baby girls that play in my truck bed and have taken them. If I paid $5 or so for them I'd probably care more about them. But can't beat free.

Making use of a pocket on my new Softopper. I wanted an additional, but loose, air hose to use with my OBA. I noticed a slotted pocket at the front of my Softopper and had the idea that I could use that pocket for storage AND let it help hold the front panel in place. (The hose wasn't enough to stop highway-speed airflow to pull the panel up & out of the bed-cab gap though, sadly.) I did have to use the supplied wee snaps at the front inside bed wall.
I took extra measures to prevent the vibration or movement of the metal QD ends wear the Softopper fabric. Half of those measures also prevent dirt & debris from getting into the hose or contaminating the QD = rubber caps. The other half was solved by applying "Sugru". A moldable putty like product during application, which then cures to rubber. Once the ends were covered, I slipped the hose into the slot and there it sits.
I may install something to keep the pocket ends closed, but as yet I'm not seeing any sign of the hose migrating out of place. Note: Most all QDs are the same size. But if you try to use a larger one, be sure you can get it into the gap between the bed and cab. The forth photo shows the hose protruding a bit - that's for the photo. It is tucked up when driving.

Bed rail mounted to bottom of truck bed

Got antsy about a project i've been thinking about doing for a while, so i did it lol.
Took the bed rail off the bed (the rail below the rear window since i never had a use for it anyways)

    20170518_194032.jpg

    cut it in half

    20170518_201209.jpg

figured out where i wanted them (each side of the bed in line with the edge of the wheel wells so they were "out of the way" but easy to get to and use) and drilled through the existing holes in the rails

    20170518_201235.jpg

and then mounted them with some hardware i had laying around (those are bolts, not screws. they just have screw heads on them lol)

    20170518_201225.jpg

now i just need to drill an additional hole at the far end of each one so i can secure that end down also. Probably going to use eye bolts and get some extra T slot nuts to throw in them to use as tie downs.

i know i could have went and bought a rail tie down system but why not just use the rail i already have thats not being used

Led cup holders and bottom/top compartments in center console. Bought the led strip at a surplus place and cut each section out for each place. Completely disassembled center console and hid wires.

I'm not sure if this belongs here, but here goes..

I've gotten into the tendency to keep the toolbox on my truck unlocked. Late night fire calls, grab the gear and go.. it happens sometimes. It's a bad habit, and has recently bit me in the rear when someone 'acquired' my small tool kit I had in there while I was at work.

When I replaced my tool set, I decided to make it a little harder for someone to walk off with my hard earned equipment. I bought a length of steel braided cable from Lowes, ran a loop through a part of the toolbox and crimped it, then made another loop, and fed it through the handles on my tool kits. Its not theft proof.. but it will prevent someone from just walking off with your stuff effortlessly.

That spring nut idea is a pretty good one - might have to use that to mount my headache rack - I bought some cheap channel T-nuts off of Amazon and they completely F***'d up my bolts and my bed rails unfortunately!

The center console (upper and lower) is the perfect amount of light. The cup holders are a bit bright at the moment. When I put the clear lenses over the holes it will defuse the light and then the cup holders will tame down bit.

Anything in this cheap/free thread that I should look at for a 3rd gen?

I would hate to do anything cheap to brand new truck boss. Drive her till you find something you want or can't do then upgrade.
