I'm swaybarless so that coupled with the taller tire definitely gives it a bit more roll but nothing I feel uncomfortable with. I don't think they wander but maybe I'm just used to the way they handle now.

Honestly I think they're about the same as far as mileage goes. The Maxxs are heavier than the 285 Nittos but gps has me averaging 17-19 mpg.

I'm averaging 18-19mpg right now. Lots of hills, some stop and go, and mix driving

Anyone running 285/75/17? From what I'll researching it looks to be more like an actual 34in tire.

mine, 1st gen, was re-geared just to make the jump to 32's.
4.88 is what I ended up with and it's been perfect.
    I don't think @Chux, 2nd gen, had to re-gear his, but I can't say for sure.

My re-gear appointment is this week. I'm currently running 285/70/17 ST Maxx's.. but will be jumping to 285/75/17's once these die. I'm re-gearing to 4.56's because of the added weight and eventual switch to 34's. They are a heavier tire for sure, so 34's are pushin that "should I re-gear or not" line IMO. I would.. even if I didnt have all the added weight (tent, rack, etc)

I just got back from a 3 week cross country trip with my brand new 285/75/17s.
(They not so brand new anymore)

    IMG_9403.jpg

With my bumpers, rtt, topper, drawer, all my camp gear weight, extra water and fuel weight, wife and pup in the cab I clocked in at 7300lbs.. I didn't rear gear nor do I plan to. Not telling anyone what they should do with their truck. There so many factors of how much you drive, how hard you wheel, what mods you have done, bumpers vs no bumpers, weekend warrior vs full overlander.. this is just how I'm going about my truck.

Did some math filling up a few times, I usually don't care to track it.. but I was getting 12-14mpg on mountain roads. That number does not reflect just the tire size. Roads and overall weight helped with that.

That's with the gears? The crazy people around here want 2k just for labor. They quoted me 16 hours... One was a Toyota specialist.

yeah, best price I've found locally. Was shocked when I heard that too. talked to them for about 3 days before finally committing. Great guys, small shop, and obviously competitive prices. Warranty, the whole 9.

Keep shopping around man. I'm saving about 1k over my first option I was going to go with.
