Like others have said, brake/rail dust. I just clay barred my 2015, all the rust spots in the paint are gone, mind you they were quite minimal. There are a few bubbles under my trucks paint and marks from chips, but not too bad. Go over the rust spots with a clay bar and see how that does, make sure to wax it afterwards to help seal the paint

The big chip in the lower door looks like a good hit from a rock or a tool of some sort, did you remove your mudflaps by chance?

You should get Toyota to handle it free of charge. I mean really nail them on this. If I bought a brand new truck and had any imperfections in the paint I would be pissed. Maybe I'm just an asshole but that's me.

you might have a hard time getting it taken care of under warranty depending on milage etc.
    Paint is a touchy subject.
I posted a link to mine above I had around 2000km on mine when it happened with mine, was never detailed as it was the winter still and I got it in january as well.

Either way good luck. They should be taking care of it though as thats bullshit to see rust behind paint so soon. Let us know what happens.
If only toyota could stand behind their paint and galvanize stuff. I know my jetta's paint is still gorgeous after 11 years and only one little rust spot about the size of a pea on the hood where I had a stone chip and only recently started to rust.

All VW paint is also backed by a 10 year warranty, i know two people that had theirs repainted because the paint failed after about 7 years. They won't repaint the whole car but any spot that has rust or damage to the paint as long as it wasn't caused by an accident etc. One guy I worked with had his hood repainted because it started to rust towards the top near the wipers.

I had rail dust on my hood, fenders, and roof. I found it the first week I had the truck and immediately called the dealer. They said it could either be a paint defect or rail dust. They simply clawed and buffed the paint. Good as new. However if it had to be repainted I would have raised hell. Just as others have mentioned a brand new truck should not be repainted on my time. Should have been completed prior to being sold and marked down stating it was repainted.

Guys... do you think it's only Toyota vehicles that have this issue? Um, no. My wife's CR-V has it too, especially on the rear lift gate. It's not rust from underneath, it's bits of metal picked up from the road that adheres to the paint. Tiny bits of metal. Her lift gate has a lot of painted plastic cladding and they stick to that too. The term "rail dust" is a generic term at best. If you have ever rode a bike or walked beside a major road you will see all kinds of metal, from a bit of wire from a truck tire to friggin nails and spikes. There is a lot of metal on and beside our roads. What you guys have is just bits of it picked up and stuck to your paint. Clay bar and wax and you'll be fine.

As far as paint on the Tacoma and all Toyotas sold in the NA market:
Super White is the ONLY color that does not have a separate clear coat on top. Every other color is two stage and some are three stage. Why does Super White not have a separate clear coat? Because yellowing of paint. They simply mix their clear into the Super White paint so it is one stage, but with binders that mix the paint and clear together.

So, no more speculation, no more blaming Toyota, unless you find the metal rust spots before you leave the lot when you are purchasing the vehicle. On your drive home, hell, even on your test drive, you could pick up these tiny bits of metal and in just a few days they will have a bit of a rust spot. Most of the time it's your fault, not Toyota.

Don't think anyone is blaming Toyota. It's just crappy when you buy a new truck and have tiny rust flecks in the paint. I would have went with a different color if I knew this was going to be an issue. For what its worth, I owned a white Nissan Frontier for several years and never had this issue, but maybe their paint process is different.

I last owned a 2015 White Toyota 4Runner. It was the same. My wife's Blizzard Pearl CR-V (3 stage) is the same. My Inferno Tacoma? Same. The only action is to keep it waxed and you'll be fine. Even if you don't you'll be fine, you'll just have little rust specks on top of your paint. They don't eat through the paint to the metal.

What's interesting is you can go a year or two without having picked up these metal specks, or you can go a week and pick up a bunch of them. There is no rhyme or reason as it depends on what you ran over and how much metal got picked up on your vehicle. Most of the time you will find these metal specks on the tailgate or on the sides where the tires sling them up on the paint. Occasionally on the leading edges of the top or hood or mirrors. The tailgate will usually be the worst because of aerodynamics. When driving at speed you develop a low pressure area behind the vehicle. Whatever you drive over, as long as its light enough to be sucked up from your tires, will be drawn up and adhere to the tailgate. So check your tailgate and behind the tires. That's usually where you find them.

Wasn't blaming Toyota here.... just stating I had the same problem. And as you said any vehicle can get it. Over the course of years vehicles receive rail dust for lack of better terms. But have a 08 Lexus and still have not had any problems with rail dust or any combination in between...

Basically rail dust is a catch all phrase for "we don't know what the F it is and we aren't going to take ownership of it". I've owned two other brand new toyotas in the same area I live now, and never had an issue with the paint and I had them both over 8 years, so it's not the environment. Even if it was "rail dust" from transport that would have happened between the factory and the dealer, so that is Toyota's responsibility. However, Toyota dismissed my claim without even having a rep inspect it in person. After 3 months of dealing with Toyota, I finally took it back to the dealer and he agreed that it was definitely a factory defect and since toyota won't take ownership of it, we will. They bought back my defective one and I got my new Tacoma this week. Don't put up with this crap, hold Toyota accountable.

Had my 17 SR5 for 2 weeks (less than 100 miles) and it was vandalized on the front right fender. After body shop finished with it. They showed me a finger print under the clear coat above the back right handle. Took it to dealership for fix under warranty. They had the truck a week and a half. When I went to pick it up, the truck looked worse than it did before. Overspray on the opposite side doors and near fuel fill door. There was a noticeable line where they taped off where they painted. Took it back to repair this mess. 3 weeks later, I got the call that it was done. Still a slight line where the tape job had been, I have to really look for it in the right light. Extremely frustrating having to deal with these issues. What burned me the most was when I picked it up the first time and found the overspray and tape line. I immediately went back to service rep and asked if they had inspected the work. She said No and walked me over to the customer relations manager.

I had to wait about 5 minutes while the CRM was looking at Camaros on his computer. He then tells me about the 50th anniversary Camaro and his 50th birthday is coming up and how its his dream car. Needless to say, I went off about my truck being my dream car. I waited 5 years to decide to pull the trigger on the truck, then took another 6 months to find the right one at the right price. And then this.

Never seen this in 35 years of buying new vehicles. I've owned Ford's,Toyota's and even a P.O.S Government Motors P.U. Not one spec of rust on any of them.

Must be a San Antonio / Tijuana thing.

    That's terrible!

Years ago my wife hit a deer with her Honda Civic shortly after we bought it. I decided to take it to the dealership we bought it from to avoid any future warranty issues. Within a year it was rusting where they had repaired it. Thought I was doing the right thing taking it there. Dealerships can really make or break your ownership experience.

Hope they do the right thing and get it straightened out to your satisfaction.
