    Yes, that's true as far as I'm aware. It wasn't actually a design flaw, just a manufacturing issue.

    I was just kidding around, tho...

    But it's nice to see the folks who tell you you're going to kill people by using aftermarket. I mean despite that being based solely on anecdotal evidence from threads like this one or that one guy who was a mechanic and had one come in his shop or that guy who posted a picture of one, which still only represents 0.004% of the millions of Tacos currently on the road.

    But yeah, they're probably right, we are just going to kill people. :rolleyes:

    Any of you guys that claim the LBJ apocalypse actually had a failure yourself? Or just regurgitating the same worn out info from a very small sample?

    The only OEM ball joints I have ever used on my truck were from the factory. I have gone aftermarket 555 2x's since and have had zero issues. I check them every oil change btw. The last set I replaced were 5 years old and when I took them off they had zero slack, but I already had the new ones so I went ahead and changed them. I feel 99% of failures are from lack of maintenance or improper installation I.e. "No loctite"

    I get a kick out of these kinda comments on these posts. People actually think toyota is manufacturing these little wear item parts in house. They outsource just like every one else.

    Ummmmm..no. That's not what my statement means, and thats def not what I meant, and I know Toyota doesnt make the damn ball joints that are sold as OEM Toyota.

    (not to OP) Buy whatever the f' LBJ you want to. There is enough information and debate threads for you to decide if $20 more per joint to go OEM is worth it to you or not. It's your truck, your life, your decisions. If you want to go MOOG, that's on you. I'm sure it will do just fine. For others, it hasn't. YMMV

    just replaced mine Monday, the last set was on the truck for about 114k miles and lasted about 113.8k miles before one started making noise and I replaced them with another set of MOOG ball joints since the last pair went for over 100k. The only reason I went with MOOG was that they were in stock and less than a mile away and that the last pair did their job.

    You said toyota manufacturing, where I come from that would mean made by toyota. Whether you meant it that way or not there is plenty of people with that mentality and it's just silly. If you could figure out the source toyota gets its joints from I'd dare bet you could find the exact same joint at one of the part store chains without the Toyota mark up.

    That would be awesome, but they get manufactured to different specs for Toyota by the same company that makes the closest quality aftermarket ones. The link in my post above yours goes on to show the differences upon dissecting them. It's interesting information if nothing else.
