Rear Diff had slight seep no leaks. Took her in today for the recall and was out in 45 minutes. All they did was a retorque. She has 41,000 problem free miles on her.

    Hmmm...

I have "minor weep staining" and they still incarcerated it. Differing opinions of the service departments, I assume.

I just don't get that crap. If it shows ANY sign of oil the gasket
seal was breached.....how can it be fine?

Did the check the level at least? I'd guess no.

Well it is not up to the opinion of the service departments. The Remedy documentation the dealer has, that was posted earlier in this thread. Specifically says leaks may be observed as minor seepage to full blown leaks.

Here is the verbatim work instruction:
    1. INSPECT REAR DIFFERENTIAL FOR OIL LEAK
    a. Inspect the area where the Differential Carrier bolts to the
Axle Housing for signs of an oil leak. Check around the
entire circumference of the Carrier assembly.

Note: Any sign of leakage, even very minor, is still leakage.
Minor seepage is still considered a leak.

If any of you are on the recall list and have this minor seep or leak and the dealer sends you home with a re-torque, this in direct violation of Toyota's work instruction, they did not perform the recall properly.

I suggest all of you who are going to the dealer, to take the documentation with you to let them know that you know what they are supposed to do. If the balk, let them know you will be notifying the NHSTA and Toyota Corp, and I would do it in that order.

I would also take pictures of the rear diff leak or seepage, this way you have proof so the dealer can't just say re-torque and send you on your way. The dealers make no money of this recall, they just get reimbursed for the costs so there is no profit. They would rather not have to do the recall at all. We have already seen that many dealers are shady and won't do what they are supposed to do with the other issues, CPS, transmission fluid, etc. It is time we let them know, they are being put on notice if they give you any crap.

That too. I make sure my concerns are notated on the work order so
whatever comes of it, it's right there in print and they signed off on it.

Went by my Toyota dealer early this morn. Checked their Tacoma "impound" lot and mine was not there so I am assuming it has been moved inside the shop for the repair. Fingers crossed now 40 days in and still waiting.

I have been already one week without my tacoma. Dealership told me I should get it back by July 20th.
    I already miss my tacoma.

Indeed I am also in a rav4. The only reason why I brought mine in the first place is because supposedly they had the gasket in stock then the following day it turned out to be that they did not have it and now I have to wait till the 20th of July. I called the Toyota the company and they told me if I wanted to speed up the process to call dealerships around my area to see if they have the gaskets LOL I found that to be very funny that is the dealerships job not mine.

Took my '17 in early last week and they snagged it from me. They stuck me in a new F150 from Enterprise.

At the time, nobody had any ETA. Do we know any new info?
