What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

New to me, my other has roof damage from enthusiastic driving.

 

Pricing out suspension right now since Lowrange is having a 5% of storewide sale.
Think I have settled on OME kit (couple hundred more than 5100s but read the coils pair better with OME). Getting nitrochargers front and rear, 883 coils, and OME medium load leafs driver and passenger (and rear exhaust bracket) for a total of $1,006.98. Save about $70 from piecing together a kit from Headstrong.

Is there anything I am over looking? I am not going to do new shackles and also can I use my bushings off my stock springs for the new ones? Or do I have to purchase those?

 

New spring shackles are a good idea too, OME leafs don't come with bushings installed either so you'll likely need those

 

Do you happen to remember how much just the nitro fronts and 883s were?

 

Rear brake proportioning bracket, rear extended brake lines. Shackles, bushings.

 

I don't have the need for extended shackles so should I just buy oe ones? Mostly a DD with occasional logging/hunting roads so don't need to go all out. With the bushings too, just the oe ones as well? Don't need the greaseable ones and heard poly are very squeaky haha

Didn't know about that bracket! Yeah wasn't sure about rear extended brake lines as I've heard you don't need them but I should just go ahead and get them

 

My poly bushings have always been silent, OE bushings don't fit OME leafs anyway. So I'd get the OME greasable shackles and poly bushings as they fit the best and don't cost much

 

Working on replacing leaf springs today. Front bolts are seized and will have to cut off. Anyone know what size bolt I need to get?

 

I think I am just going to stay with my normal oe shackles, found the bushings that go with the stock shackles. This raises the price to 1037.96. They have a kit on sale already with all the things I was going to buy for $1034.81 so I'm just going to get that and save 3 bucks haha

Ordered some goodies for it today.

 

I did 883's with nitrochargers around, dakar leaf and did not do extended brake lines. I don't believe they're necessary with OME . I did the BPV

3 years in the making... finally finished the front end swap by mounting a 95-97 bumper. Cut outs for the Iggy flush mount driving lights I bought months ago. (fawking bright).

This is so much better looking than the 98-00 bumper paired with the 95-97 grille/etc.

 

Then @45acp said he wanted to swap fluids with me... and I said "whoa! bro." How about we just swap tires... and so we did.

From Goodyear Adventure ATs (with 40,000 miles on them) to BFG KO2s with 3000 miles on them.

 

Gonna lube my driveshafts today (hehe @Madjik_Man), but I'm too many beers in to know if it's absolutely critical to use the moly fortified grease that Toyota calls out for the slide yokes and DC joint.

I have this on hand, and I'm pretty sure either would be just fine for everything, but the OCD in me wants to hear from you guys. What do you think?

 

I have not used moly grease on the slip joint because I didn't feel like having a separate gun for it. I think as long as you grease it regularly (like every oil change) you should be fine.

I'm at a loss as to why my rear brakes suck. I'm not sure if it's the aftermarket shoes the only non-oem part I used or something else. The rear brakes now drag and get hot. If I back them off a day later they start dragging again. I'm going to pull out the parts bazooka and order the following from Toyota:

Drums
Shoes
Every spring, adjuster and lever

The bell cranks and all cables move freely and were replaced with OEM Toyota parts in 2015
