Why are RTT's so expensive?

It just doesn't make sense. That's the price point they are ultimately set at. That's like me asking why I can't find a $100 ar15, "because they're too expensive."

Even if you were to find the RTTs straight from the manu you wouldn't see much of a difference in asking price. Considering most of them come from China you'd have to pay shipping and all that headache. I don't see much for alternatives without making your own jerryrig tent on top of a platform.

I'm not saying they should be $100, but to use a similar example to yours, there are $500 1911's then there are some that climb into the thousands.

Smittybilt has RTT below $1k but many people have had issues with quality, namely the straps and cover. How is that not a cheaper alternative to the $2k+ of Tepui, CVT, etc?

My CVT was $1300 :gossip: quite a difference from $2k.

It seems no one here took an economics course.

Arent the ones comparable in size to the smitty around 2k for CVT?

Regardless, all I'm saying there ARE alternatives to the usual per the OP's inquiry.

Hm, that I wouldn't know. I think either the Mt. Bachelor or Rainer is close to $18 iirc. I have the Shasta that typically goes for $16 and basically saved on shipping. I would suggest the OP look out for group buys on RTTs if he's really dead set on sourcing one.

tepui has new tents under 1k

shipping might be another story though.

used is always the way to go imho

It is pretty much a small investment, honestly I would save up and get new. There are ones by tepui and CVT much closer to $800-1000 but with that comes the smaller size and lack of amenities. I guess it depends on how the OP plans to use it.

it seems the majority of these tents do not see that much use, that is one of my reasonings with going the used route

i got mine used in a trade as i would have never picked one up new

spending this type of coin on a novelty tent is totally a small investment I agree, and usually you can get .80 cents to the dollar back if you buy new and sell it later so really not a bad investment in the end arguably

I have the tepui ayer, and if I was gonna buy a new one I would opt for one that is larger, but when going the used route cant always have it all

I would go with one that extended over the latter area so that when adding an annex you actually gain some more room in there

but in a way i almost wanna sell the tent and the taco and go pick up a U-Joint van, but now that is some serious monies :annoyed::rain:

Snakes and such aren't going to get in your tent if you keep it closed up.

You might be a good candidate for a bed tent.

I just use a Napier truck tent. takes about 10 minutes total to set up. way cheaper than a RTT and im off the ground. Only down side is you cant have a cap or bed bars and youd have to take all your shit out of the bed.

my friend works at an unnamed offroad store and his employee discount for the Smittybilt XL RTT is about $600 that item retails for what $1200? So they're making a good margin so I can't imagine what their actual cost is for it if his employee discount is that.
