Whats the best way to hook an ipod up to your factory stereo w/ out that annoying cord going to the cigarette lighter?

what does the cigarete lighter have to do with it?

i used a small radio transmitter, but insted of transmitting it wirelesly to the radiostation of my choice, i wired it directly into the antenna (eleminates static). to use my ipod, i plug the ipod into the headphone jack that goes to the transmitter, flip a switch that turns on the transmitter (which is concieled behind my dash) and turn the radio to the station i set the transmitter too. i'm about to install an aftermarket head unit that has an aux feature, but i have been very happy with this setup for about 3 years. i can't seem to find the unit i used online anymore, but if i recal, the whole setup only cost me abotu $60. you should be able to use jsut about any small transmitter.

    hope this helps/makes sense.

I have the grom ipod hook up in my 08 prerunner and it works great and was easy to install. The only thing i have a beef with is that i take my ipod out when i go to the gym 4 times a week and have noticed that the charge is never full and sometimes its completely dead. Its a 3rd gen ipod so haven't figured out yet if it's something im doing or some kinda setting i have to mess with or if just the way it's gonna be.

Has anyone run the connection all the way to the center console and kept the wires hidden?

I have noticed that the GROM Interface does not charge the ipod when the ignition is off on my Tacoma.
I have the Grom in my Acura and it charges all the time. (may cause an over-charge issue)

You may have a dead ipod everytime you get in the truck. Charging only starts when you start the truck. (at least that is how mine works.) (latest Grom and iPOD nano chromatic G4)

Yes, my ipod is in the center console box. The cable is just long enough for the ipod to rest next to the auto shifter. (rectangular compartment)
I prefer to have the ipod in the console box in order to keep it out of sight. I did exactly the same in my Acura as well.

I used a couple of write ups from this site.
How to remove the head unit.
fished the wire from behind the glove box, installed the Grom to the left of the glove box, just above the center console
then ran the cable under the silver top piece of center console. Another write up on this site
the only hole I drilled was in the bottom carpet piece in the center console.
I will take some pictures of the finished product for you. (even though you are an Avalanche fan!)
do a search for Grom and another for ipod. You will find what you need. There is a sticky on removing the center console.
    very clean install.

Is the removal of the factory head unit the same in the video up top when the "decorative" panels aren't decorative but have function?
