Please do a search next time, this has been beaten to death. I made a thread specifically on how to fix it.

    1. It isn't normal, and yo don't just "deal" with it. People saying that only reinforces Toyota's laziness.
    2. It is something that will be replaced under warranty, mine were.
    3. Do a search for future issues.

No one is saying "just live with it" we're saying its an easy fix you need to do yourself just like you did, because its simple physics, not a design flaw. When you stuff dirt and debris between flexible pieces of metal you'll get noise end of story, there's really not anyway to engineer around that without creating some $5k+ totally custom and sealed design which is stupid.

Its like saying Toyota should create scratch proof paint, why should you have to deal with scratches on a $40k truck?! Toyota should ceramic coat them from the factory so that dirt doesn't stick at all! I should be able to let bird shit sit on my hood without worry that it'll burn the paint because its a $40k truck I shouldn't have to worry about that stuff! And the touch screen should be made of gorilla glass because why should we have to deal with a scuffed touch screen?? oh and brakes that don't rust, its a $40k truck I shouldn't have to hear them grind for the first mile while the rust breaks off. For that matter why doesn't Toyota just design an engine that never needs an oil change? Its ridiculous I have to take my $40k truck in every couple months for service, I mean they've had oil for almost 200yrs now that's plenty of time to figure out a way to engineer oil change free engines! And everything should be rust-proof I live by the beach and its ridiculous my $40k brand new truck has rusty parts underneath that's totally unacceptable! Humans have been dealing with rust for hundreds of years Toyota should totally make everything rust proof there's no excuse. There should also be onboard air, bulletproof windshields, and runflat tires. I mean its a $40k truck why should I have to deal with window chips, flat tires and needing to get myself all dirty just to add air, I spent $40k I DESERVE better.

If its not normal then why are there literally thousands of threads/posts/discussions dealing with the same thing on EVERY model of truck?? Isn't that like literally the definition of "normal"??

Its not a matter of Toyota's laziness its an issue with your entitlement....

Just spray your leafs real good with a pressure washer and get some white lithium grease and grease anywhere you think the squeak is coming from. My truck did the same thing bud. People sure get heated in these threads over nothing.

No, it isn't an entitlement to anything, paying 40,000 for a truck I expect it to work. It isn't normal. You can try to rationalize it any way that you want, but it isn't normal. Don't make judgements on someone you don't know.

Ever since mine was replaced I haven't had an issue. Additionally, the regional engineer rep had even stated that it was something they were getting complaints on and knew was an issue. Apparently it hasn't been fixed yet.

My Tacoma is only 3 months old, I went and did alil off-roading after the first month and had the same issue, any little bump or accelerating, even getting in and out of the truck would cause the rear suspension to squeal. I brought it to the dealership and they lubricated the wear pads twice before it would stop making noise. So far it hasn't come back but my dealership told me it would be covered under the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty.

Exactly you wouldn't answer the question. Name ANY model of truck made in the last 20 years and I'll find you online discussions about squeaky leaf springs... go ahead try me.

So if the same thing happens to every truck with leaf springs, again, how is it NOT normal??

I have had vehicles with 200,000 miles on them and never had issues with leaf springs yet a brand new vehicle with under 5000 miles at the time had massive squeaking. It isn't normal no matter how you try to rationalize it or say to search for something. If you look hard enough you can find a "problem" with everything, but that doesn't make it normal. Since you want to argue feelings and broad generalizations our conversation is over, welcome to ignore.

Jesus its like trying to introduce an 8 year old child to logical fallacies. I'd explain the difference between anecdotal and empirical data but its pretty obvious you like to keep your head firmly buried in the sand, can't let new information in then you'd be forced to THINK ;)

I'll chime in here, I've had squeaks and creaks since about 10,000KM. Have never "off roaded" per day, only dirt roads for camping/fishing not even enough to flex the suspension.

I think the cause of my early squeaking is my driveway. It's in need of a pave so I flex the suspension going in and out on the big sink spots.

My reason for thinking it's strange is my WRX had zero issue with the same bumps for 2x the length of time, so a bit odd my sport car can handle bumps my truck "cries" from lol.

So dealer tried lubing them, and just yesterday replaced the leaf packs.

So is it silent now? NOPE. Sort of...now that the backs quiet I can hear the front. Front right creaks like mad over and speed bump or slow speed flex of the suspension.

    Any ideas??

Check your rad bolt mounts. Mine creaked and sounded like it was grinding.

Didn't read the thread, so this may have been covered. This exact thing happened to me the first time I took out my new truck into the mud. There is dirt/sand in between the leafs, and that's what is causing it to squeak. I know for a fact this is what caused the squeaking because a week after that, I pulled my leafs apart to install an AAL. Blew out all the sand and dirt and the squeaking stopped. Nothing to warranty here and just comes with the territory of off roading.

Really all I have to say here is that I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota with 175k miles and not a single squeak out of the rear end after FAR more mudding and off-roading. Not to mention countless other trucks that I know the owners of, similar age and stories, no squeaks from the leafs. This is a design flaw.

Also, the point is that it shouldn't be a regular maintenance item. These aren't 15 year old bushings that are worn out and dried. This is an issue on brand new Tacomas, a consistent issue. Not a one off situation. Meaning this is a design flaw, NOT by design. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Jesus its like you've never heard of google. Dakota's don't get squeaky springs huh? There's even a TSB for it...

Hundreds of more posts going over and over this "common issue"

    Also on 1st gen tacomas:

It came up so much on the second gen forum here's a guy getting flamed for not just using the "search function" ON THIS FORUM. You obviously haven't been around here very long:

Never said they don't get squeaky springs, my statement said that I have a fairly old truck, that's has been through more than my Taco, and has never developed a squeak. So please, don't tell me the issue revolves solely around dirt and grime getting in the springs. That is clearly not the only factor that is at play with this issue.

"It's a truck people blah blah blah"

I'm sorry, maybe this was a valid point in the 40's or 50's, but with trucks becoming more and more modernized for everyday consumers I would expect some of the nuances that plagued trucks in the past to be resolved. Your closing statement is pure crap.

If I bought a Mercedes Benz pickup in Europe and complained about squeaky suspension (not leafs), would you still tell me to shut up because it's a truck? I'd hope not, because Mercede's target market is not the typical truck consumer. That excuse would never 'fly' with those inviduals (not to marginalize them).

Just because it is a truck does not mean it has to squeak, nor does it serve as a justification.

It doesn't have to squeak because it's a truck. It CAN squeak because it's a truck and needs some additional treatment because they are designed with less focus on NVH.

While on the topic of trucks, base for base design, the tacoma is one of the cheapest on the market. We shouldn't expect it to not suffer from usual truck problems, like leaf springs that are susceptible to noise after they get dirty because it's NOT an upper market truck. Quite the opposite. Remove silver spoon.
