i drive a 2003 Toyota Tacoma SR5 V6 which has just recently run into a strange clutch issue. The other day as I was driving I was noticing that the clutch pedal was sticking here and there. I had to bend down whilst driving to pull it back out in order to shift again. At one point the pedal not only stuck but started to suck all the way in. I looked up a little on the issue wit a friend and decided that a new Clutch Master Cylinder was in order. However, upon installing the new master cylinder the issue kept on happening.

As of now the car is sitting useless in my driveway. If anyone has had a similar issue and has any suggestions or remedies please let me know, your help is much appreciated. Thanks.

there is also a slave cylinder, as well as a spring on the pedal assembly itself which can fail?

did you bleed your new clutch master?

I had the same problem. I replaced the master and slave (Aisin parts) and bled the system, which solved the issue. Also, before this happend, my clutch pedal wouldn't come up 100%; it would stay down just enough from the top that it wouldn't push in the white CC switch. About a week or so after driving it with the new cylinders, that issue disappeared as well. I should mention that when I did this work, I also replaced the bushings on the clutch pedal assembly with brass ones so the spring would stop squeaking. Not sure if that was related to the problem.

Let me know if you want to know anything more specific.

Where did you purchase the brass bushings? My slave cylinder just shit the bed, now I am having the same issues as OP. My spring squeaks, so I would like to fix everything in one whack.

I purchased (2) of part number 2938T28. Those replaced the plastic flanged bushings the spring ends go through on the sides of the clutch bracket. Worked great. I attempted to replace the center bushing the spring rests on (which was gone) as well, but I failed in doing that. I referenced the same thread Dalandser did, but I was having a hard time aligning the bushing properly and keeping it from moving, while trying to get the spring back on. Mine did not look as bad as Dalandser's, so I just applied some grease and the problem went away. I've 2,000 miles since. I probably should try to go back and fix it properly at some point.

Had this issue. Probably slave, but recommend replacing master and slave at the same time. $75 and you are good for many years. Very easy job

Do any of you guys have recommendations for grease after replacing these bushings? I was thinking about white lithium, but I want to use something a little thicker, at least after the initial installation.

Moly is what this guy used and he said he didn't have any problems:

Any high temp bearing grease or general use grease should be fine though.

my 96 had the exact same problem, while driving the pedal would just sink in all the way to the floor by itself. i replaced the master with the a $20 generic brand one and bled it and now it works great. however it does not come back up all the way. but because of this posts i now know how to get rid of that sound from the pedal lol thought it was my throwout bearing

I'd go with the #70 Ace Hardware spring (that's part #70). It's the best fix for the dough in my experience after doing the bronze bushing design and spending a lot more money for no good results. If I could make it work I'd do the bronze bushing because it felt better for the three or so pedal pumps before the grease ran out, but at least get the $3 spring and have that be your temporary fix for almost nothing while you attempt the bronze bushing mod. I'm still working on a solution I'm happy with. YMMV of course.
