Incorrect..... i know for a FACT that depending on the 4th/5th gen 4 runner you can have a larger rotor... moms 07 limited 4 runner has larger rotors than my tacoma. 328mm i believe. There is a whole thread write up on the 4 runner large disk upgrade.

1st gen tundras have the same size rotor as our tacomas.... it would not be an upgrade.

    Yes

First, there are a lot of variables with T4R models not all models have larger rotors than a Tacoma = fact. Second, I never said anything about a 1st gen Tundra ?

You took my verbiage a little too literally, I stated the Tundra upgrade " method " IE: swapping in other OE bolt on calipers...not necessarily just Tundra calipers.

Here are the calipers that will bolt onto a 2nd gen Tacoma :

Have. Already posted my response in another rear disk conversion thread. Very worthy! My truck weighs between 37-3800.

I have had 6 pots up front for ages by the time I just did the basic disk conversion.

Sooo let's rephrase the question... what's the best way to make a Tacoma stop better with the added weight and big ass tires?

More leverage. More brake swiping surface area. More disk brake. ;)

Lot more braking power plus it looks really clean and easier maintenance, plus if i could use the 4Runner ones it might actually be cheap to do

easier maintenance?!???! 240k miles on my dads 1st gen tacoma and the rear drums never needed to be touched.....

About the only time i could see the use for upgraded rears is if you were hauling SIGNIFICANT load ALL of the time. But even thing i would start at the front by doing the 4 runner 338mm disks n pads n calipers and SS lines in all 4 corners before touching the rear.

If you complain about braking performance on a normalish truck (IE not on 35's with full armor) while towing you likely are over the legal limit for towing without trailer brakes.

That sounds more like they weren't working so they never wore down if they were the original brakes

That's cause they never did anything until the e-brake was pulled. :p

They definitely worked just fine. E brake was always used so they stay adjusted the 240k we had the truck. You could lock up the rears on that truck when you wanted pretty easy.

Holy crap... how much do you think that 3-link would cost if I dropped my truck off at a fab shop? That looks beautiful, and I love how the bed stays functional!

$ is a question for @jeffz0rz , thanks we put a lot of thought into that exact idea...how to do a link set up without penetrating the bed and just a space saver style bed cage

I have not done the rears yet, waiting on one more piece for the beta test. Their kit reuses everything including retaining the e-brake.
