Installation Notes:
Doors: The stock vapor barrier can be replaced after treating the outer door skin. It has patches of shoddy padding facing the trim panel that substitute for the CCF we normally place behind the MLV on doors. You'll still want to add some patches of CCF on the side of the MLV facing the trim panel where the MLV and trim panel would otherwise make loose contact. See the build log.

 

I just jumped in on the molle panel group buy so I'm preparing to sound deaden the rear of the cab, but maybe I'll hit the doors while I await it's arrival.

 

I ended up selling my plastic cubbies for the same price that I paid for the Mille panel.

Patience will get you some good coin for yours.

Still surprised people want those things.

@Crom , how are you liking the 6112s after having them for a while? I am contemplating replacing my 5100/ eibach combo with them. I feel like with no sway bar on my FJ they are pretty under damped, and would like a stiffer shock to help control my brick on wheels. I'd rather not go to a adjustable coil-over cause they get destroyed up here in salt-achussets(though application specific damping is pretty tempting). It looks like your running with no front sway bar (granted the FJ and Taco are pretty different); if so how are you liking them? Seems like 6112s should work well for all around use (i.e. anything from climbing granite ledges and boulder fields all day to bombing down 100's of miles of logging roads).

 

They're definitely an improvement over what you have. I had the same 5100/Eibach combo. The damping is just a bit stiffer but just an overall better ride on and off road. see this thread if you haven't already. Kinda on topic... Has anyone had experience with paint on or spray on sound deadeners? Saw one advertised on TV the other day and made me think it might be easier

 

I'll jump in here if Crom doesn't mind. I was an early adopter of 6112s for my '15 Tacoma, and I love them. You are right about them being a good all purpose set-up. My sway bar free truck is well mannered on the street, and handles granite ledges and desert two-track with aplomb. I'd buy them again, for sure.

 

Pretty straight forward. Depending on the amount of wear to your stock bushings, there may be some deformation of the sheetmetal around the hole so getting everything to line up might be a bear. I think someone used a long screwdriver to get everything lined up, but can't remember who or where. Large puck on top allows for a little more clearance for them 35s though.



I still haven't done mine. Been sitting on the shelf for over a year and a half.

I found the thread above to have the best pictures/install tips. (Pics at the end of the first post). 2x4 on your floor jack should be all you really need. Having the hybrid bumper means you might not have to remove your grill or bumper to get to the mounting bolts since everything is exposed.

I submitted my resignation yesterday, but it's future dated into August. I had to ensure that benefits were retained through the month. I'm going to get a nice vacation payout too. Truth for me is that I stayed too long and should have left sooner. But I do believe everything happens for a reason. Where I am going is an awesome place, with good people, and I am winning in every category by making this career move. I'm very grateful and very happy.

I hear you on being rusty. I haven't camped in five months! Both my kids are like what the heck?!? Why are we not going on camping / outdoor adventures?!? It's just the nature of the beast right now.

I'm going to have to go back to checklists when we get going again.

Okay. That's quite a feat right there, I think! how the heck did you sell those cubbies!?! I listed mine on craigslist a few times, and said to hell with this, and put them in the recycle bin, probably in a landfill by now.

Curt and Bruce chimed in, thanks guys, and I agree. The 6112's are excellent. They do dampen a lot more vs 5100, and you should be very happy with them. They retain the factory rubber top hat and rubber bolt bushing, which IMO is a good thing if you want to try and keep truck noise to a minimum, like I do.

Thanks J! The commodity name you can try searching for is Butyl mat, or Butyl rope, anything with butyl (it's the tar like substance (but with no smell) that deadens and adds density. I don't know if it comes in a spray can, but I would be somewhat cautious with spray anything. There are drain holes in the door and you don't want to clog those up, so that water can run out.

Enjoy the front end bushings. Least best money you can spend on a Tacoma, and get a fantastic result that you can feel when going over obstacles, street or off road. Who would have thought! Bushings.

Yeah, completely loosen both bolts, but only replace one at a time. For the universal kit, I do recommend the big bushing on top. It's an easy job, about 1 hour, the drivers side bolt can be a pain to align when reinstalling, probably due to imploding core support thanks to battery caving it in. lol

You just get lucky sometimes, I suppose. My post lasted a week before they were sold. I think at the time someone figured out that you could retrofit them to work in regular cabs. Which I could see appealing to people wanting better storage in the smaller space, but I still think they take away more space than what they add in organization. Don't really remember what the buyer told me he wanted them for.
Some things sell right away, others sit around for a long time without any action. I've put my stock wheels up for sale a few times and never get any good bites. I removed them at 500 miles, so they're brand new. One guy bought the stock tires at what I calculated to be retail price (that he offered to pay, BTW), but he was completely convinced that he was getting an amazing deal. Even had me wondering if I made a mistake agreeing to the price.

 

I did the larger bushing on top and my fan rubbed the shroud...smaller on too was much better fit for me.

 

I also did the large bushing on top, I had no interference with the fan / shroud however i did have to adjust the drivers side rubber hood bumper 2 full turns. The hood seemed to latch slightly loose before this adjustment. There was no visible difference in the body gap or any other problems and I would install this way again. This is one of those "each truck is different" like driveshaft vibes and how much plastic needs to be cut to clear the same tires....
