I purchased my truck with some running type boards and I'm not a fan of them. Removed them yesterday and already looks better to me. I was just looking for some feedback on what brands are legit and what maybe to stay away from. I found some smittybuilt brand black powder coat for $159 shipped. Just trying to spruce up the appearance a bit. Any kind of suggestions is awesome!

    Thanks again

Do you want them to function as actual rock sliders at all?

OP stated that he doesn't need rock sliders, so the BAMF product, while excellent, is over-kill for him.

Before I installed rock sliders, I ran SmittyBilt 'Surestep' bars. They were bolt-on, fairly solid and worked well for me until I upgraded.

Mine came with Luverne nerf bars from the P.O. They're alright, I guess, I don't really like them and am going to sliders eventually. I personally really like the look of sliders. It might be overkill, but you could put some grip-tape in a few key spots and use them as steps. The 4x innovations ones are $220 + $60 to ship, at least to my area. Then you would just need to find a local place to either weld them on or maybe even cut the bracket off your current running boards and weld it to the sliders...

But that's just me and all based on my opinion that rock sliders look 50x better than running boards.

Put a rock slider on there but lower to function as a step. Will be much stouter and if you ever take a hit no big deal. Trail gear has them for reasonable price. You can bolt them on but might as well weld them on. It will also give you some protection from doors thrown into truck in parking lots. Sliders look better than fake chrome step bars.

    I bought these from Amazon:
TYGER Custom Fit 95-04 Toyota Tacoma Extended/Ext Cab (4Wd Or Prerunner 2/4Wd) Black 3" Side Step Rails Nerf Bars Running Boards(2pcs with Mounting Bracket Kit)
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J632NBG

they look fantastic on my 2003, weren't hard to install (despite mediocre instructions that came with it) and were only $130 with free shipping!
