What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Just ordered the SPC UCA's and I figured I would go ahead and finish up my suspension overhaul.

What have you all done for LCA bushings(or aftermarket LCA)? OEM or aftermarket?

I was looking on Partznet and it's either 50 for 1 or 50 for 2. 50 for 1 makes me want to go aftermarket. Thoughts?

 

With the SPCs? Is there a fix or do you just deal with it?

That's a new way to quote haha, but yeah save some cash and just match the inner diameter of the vacuum line and order a 10ft roll for cheapo.

Yep - was debating that as well. Figured I would check to see what Camelback had it for if I could find the part# but if not was going to explore just a generic EPDM solution. Thanks all.

 

Fair enough, I've got 312k right now. Nothing is seized but besides my wheel bearings, this is the last front suspension component that I haven't changed/purchased.

There is a thread around here in the 1st gen section somewhere that has a lot of good info from folks who have tackled the LCA maintenance. Worth reading first if you think you'll be taking it on.

 

If for nothing else, this thread is fun to read.

 

Whiteline makes poly bushings for the 3rd gen 4runner. They fit our LCAs as well. Go for that.

 

I've had mine sitting around for months, hopefully gonna see how they work soon.

 

I have done some reading and have some more to do, I know it's going to be a royal PITA, but it would bother me to no end if I didn't.

I saw the thread you(pretty sure it was you) started after the group buy you were trying to get started. I think it started in 2012 or something. How are they holding up? Did the lube you used hold up pretty well, any squeaks?

@Squeaky Penguin has them though and working great far as i know.

I replaced my LCA bushings with new OEM bushings...the PITA part is getting the LCAs off if any of your camber bolts end up being seized like one I had...had to cut it off with sawzall and cutoff wheel. When you do it make sure you replace your rack and pinion bushings at the same time since you will have to undo that to get the LCAs off.......the actual replacement of the bushings isn't to bad. Get a torch heat them up then press them out with the tool you can rent from Napa...Oreillys...etc there is a YouTube vid out there showing how to...but honestly if your LCAs come off easy it's not bad at all.....once your done get an alignment, no matter how well you mark the position of the tabs you will still need an alignment

That's my plan so far. I've replaced my shocks, lbj's, outter tie rods and cv's in the last six months so I've had a few alignments and no indication of seized bolts. Fingers crossed. I'll still get new adjustment bolts and I'll look into the rack and pinion bushings, I hadn't considered those yet.

Thank you all. My wallet hates you but I've gotten much better at buying parts before I'm already covered in grease.

I modified a 94 Landcruiser rear heat switch to make it into a SPDT aux light switch. This involves opening the switch and reversing the LEDs. You then run your main power output on the ground wire, and your ground on the original power input. The 2 outputs that were originally for the heater will now become 12v+ inputs. I will run one to the high beam signal and one to a constant 12v signal.

This way I can have the aux lights come on with the high beams, or choose to turn on the lights whenever I want.
Some would refer to this as an on-off-auto switch.

I also modified the LO label to make it say ON and swapped in a fog light label for the center from another switch that I had on hand.
