Looking to go pick one up, I'm new to getting under the hood and want to get the right one. 100AMP or 130AMP.

I have a trailer hitch, I've got a socket under there and it's wired, my battery is 27F group. Does any of this indicate tow pkg and does the lack of this ECT PWR button mean anything?

    Thanks folks!

ECT button is a 3rd gen thing - your description indicates you have a tow package.

The oil filter housing will have a coolant cooler in between it and the oil filter, if you have this then you should have a factory tow package.
Either way I don't think the truck will much care.

Just get the 130amp, I replaced my 100amp alternator with a 130amp alternator on my X-Runner.

I was going to say this too. You can use either so why not get the larger output.

Or, support your local alternator shop and have them rebuild yours. San Jose Generator and Starter has excellent Yelp reviews. I went to local shop in my town to fix the alt in daughter's I4 Camry. They had one on the shelf ready to go; so, i took it and left the OEM as a core. That was about a year ago and alt still operating as expected.

Just buy the highest amp one you can afford, and don't bother with rebuilt alternators. Not worth the hassle.

    Why?

On a vehicle that doesn't have that type of load it's just a waste of $

Unless you are recommending he buy an OEM alternator, a professionally rebuild alternator is no different than a rebuild alternator from Amazon or RockAuto.

I have no clue. I have not bought an alternator in 25 years.

Upon the rare occasion of failure, I have mine rebuilt at a local shop. Including them doing R&R, the final cost is almost always less than a big box reman unit.

Not sure how that fits the discussion?

Thanks very much for the advice. I went with the remanufactured 130AMP w/warranty from O'Reilly's for $130. My buddy is going to work with me to rebuild the old one as a learning experience. I'm new to self auto work.

Do the OEM 100 and 130 amp alternators use exactly the same mounting brackets?

There doesn't seem to be an option to select a different mount depending on the amp on part sites.

I'll soon find out for sure! :fingerscrossed:

Plus, you need to upgrade your wiring or risk frying your new alt. I got a more modest upgrade, a 200-amp alternator from BnR, an eBay vendor and the one used by a TW vendor in his alt upgrade kit.
