I would light the person that told me this on fire. Then I would go to jail. Then I would no longer be allowed to own a vehicle, so the point would be moot :D

Anyone have a manual with the TRD exhaust? Looking for opinions... not interested in the intake/filter though.

I took delivery of my 2017 on Tuesday and I am loving it. I picked up my 2006 from the detailing shop today and hopped in it to drive it home and wow night and day difference between the two. The 17 drives and rides much better.

Hey guys, wanted to ask any MT experts if this is normal. I double clutched into 1st gear at 6mph but then decided to coast in neutral in downhill. I experienced a grinding sound and some resistance when pulling the shifter out of 1st gear to go into neutral. Clutch was all the way to the floor.

Is this the first time you've experienced resistance shifting out of a gear? I can't comment on the grinding, but I believe there's a TSB for the shifter detent ball to resolve difficulty shifting out of gear.

This was the first time I experienced that. I had the clutch pedal maybe 95% of the way down and the shifter would not pull back. It ground twice and I pushed the pedal down just a hair more down and the shifter finally released. I've heard of that TSB but didn't think it could apply to me since I have a 2017 model albeit with a 12/6 manufacture date.

    Probably just a fluke.
I've been reading through this: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/manual-transmission-getting-stuck-in-gear.415438/page-25
It looks like a few 17's have had issues, but not with the lower gears. Good luck.

I think you'll be fine. These are pretty good transmissions.

After several days and much struggling and testing I have resolved to gas it during the 1st-2nd shift. I can't wait for the RPMs to drop enough and it sucks having everyone pass you and give you the stink eye. Just going to give it a bit of gas at the very end of the shift to match everything up nice and smooth. Can't imagine it taking more than a couple hundred miles off the lifespan of my clutch.

I found for myself the best 1st-2nd shift is to rev to at least 4 grand and shift quickly to avoid much loss of RPMs

In parking lots I'll shift at 8mph while I'm driving past a group hot chicks. It makes the engine growl real nice.

Sometimes, when stopped at a red light, I can't get it into first gear. I usually have to quickly shift into another gear quickly then into first. Anyone else experience that?

That is what happens in my Truck except it is Reverse that won't go, I usually have to push the clutch in and out several times or go to 1st and move forward a bit before it goes in.
