What problem with the manual shift? The early 2016's manual shift froze in gear after a prolonged drive in one gear especially fifth. There was a bulletin issued. TSB-16- 0088 if I remember correctly. It required a smaller detent in the transmission shifter ball and a few minor parts. Not a hard job for the dealer shop to remedy. I don't know if this is your problem.
If you have problems under warranty period contact the Toyota HQ customer service and get a case number filed. The corporation will probably send a local district service rep from Toyota to your dealership to meet you and try and resolve the problem.
I found out what the fix was on this site under manual transmission gets stuck in gear thread and got all the information I needed there.
It took two times for the district field rep to come and finally resolve my issue.
It's imperative you get a case number filed. That gets things moving.
Best of luck. I hope this helped. I've driven only manual shifts for about 30 years and have a class A commercial tractor trailer license and ride a Harley for many years yet the dealer foreman also told me I was shifting incorrectly. B. S.
I shamed them when I found the TSB that resolved the problem. Toyota also sent another big corporate big shot to my dealer to inspect why they couldn't resolve this issue with so many similar problems reported like mine.

    P. S. It may also be TSB - 0088-16 not TSB -16-0088. One or the other. It was well posted in early posts on this manual transmission gets stuck in gear. You are not the first to post this problem with a 2017 manual but it was supposed to be corrected in 2016. Check it out. I think it's the problem you may be having abs that TSB is the solution if it is
Again call Toyota customer service HQ and get a case number and a direct contact representative there with name and direct kind to get dealer moving to resolve your issue. Dannyblues

I don't think it had anything to do with you being a woman. Toyota dealerships tend to assume that all of their customers are dumb asses without discrimination.

Hooray for that!! You go girl! Contact Toyota HQ customer service and report that! Pronto! Get a case number with Toyota customer service of your pleas for help don't mean a thing no matter how many times you bring it to the dealership without a case number. Demand the regional service representative come and check your vehicle properly and either have him drive it long enough to duplicate the problem or if it's the stuck in gear after about an hours drive but not even every time but mostly in fifth or any gear after an hours drive you've maintained for at least fifteen minutes but then find stuck. That's the well known problem with the TSB- 0088-16 that shows how to fix it. Best of luck. Be polite but make noise upstairs at Toyota HQ customer service. Also when you get a case number get the name and direct line to that person until its resolved. I did that and it really got things moving. My TRD doesn't have shifting problems anymore. While I haven't read all 25 pages of posts on this, I just thought I'd pop in a reply here. My 2017 manual was doing the exact same thing you're all describing. There is a "ball and spring" inside the Transmission that gets replaced as part of the fix, and on my truck the problem has been completely solved since this was done. I know it's a Toyota known item, and if necessary I'll be happy to go out and dig through the Service records to see if I can find the details, but this shouldn't be tough for a dealer to identify based on the symptoms. My dealership here in Utah never actually recreated it themselves as mine would only do it after being on the road for an hour or more, but they did certainly find the fix in the Toyota database and fix the trans under warranty with no hassle.

Welp I'm back at it drove up to Jerome one weekend and Payson another it was definitely sticking again. Sucks when you try and video it and it won't replicate what it was doing moments prior... Somebody make a good video and we can all use it!

Called Camelback again today. Last time they proved that my 2017 had the newest detent ball so not sure how they will remedy.

I'm familiar with the manual getting stuck in a particular gear after about an hour drive usually on the highway when trying to downshift from 5 or 6 to exit. The shifter gets frozen and must be muscled into neutral. It may happen once or consecutively. The TSB -0088-16 I found on this thread and brought to the attention of the dealer remedied this.

I thought the condition was corrected before the 17's arrived but have heard differently.

Since this is also a BS thread I'd like to pose a simple question unrelated to manual transmissions:

The decal on the cab says to keep my Firestone Destination LE 17 inch tires inflated to 29 lbs I believe.
Dealer said to maintain 32 psi cold.
Then changed to 35 psi cold.
I have a 2016 Double cab 4x4 manual shift with tow kit and don't usually carry much weight. ( but have at times maxed the cargo capacity for short distances). Mixed local and highway driving under 75 mph.

Any really knowledgeable reply will be appreciated! Right now my tire psi is 32.
    Thanks to all. Dannyblues

32 psi is fine cold. Tires change approximately 1 psi every 15 degrees or so. So if you checked them at 7am when ambient is 65 degrees and then check them at 2 pm and temp is 80 degrees then they will have an extra pound of pressure lol so the real difference between 29 and 32 psi is not a real big deal. Same as between 32 and 35 psi. Driving down the interstate for prolonged periods will take your tires up a few psi also from heat caused by tire rolling resistance and friction. Theoretically I could set them at 29 cold at 40 degrees ambient, drive five hours south and have my tires read 35 psi without ever adding air!

Thanks for breaking down your reply so sensibly to such an idiotic simple question I asked. For the life of me I couldn't understand why the dealer said at any temperature 29 psi is too low. Then he said 32 psi is good. Now it's 35 psi. Gets better mpg. I think the max rating is 44 psi so even at 35 psi cold then driven on a hot blacktop a long summer day I doubt it would even hit 40 psi Thanks again

Getting ZERO help from Camelback Toyota
Should have started with this route YOU were right. I for some dumb reason thought the dealership would actually want to help...oh and original advisor I started with is no longer with company so I got to start all over with some other advisor that is not returning my calls. lol

This is turning into a nightmare. Dealership wants to keep my truck again but this time have a tech drive around for 1+ hrs to replicate....for some reason I am not allowed to go on this ride. I was emailing back and forth with Toyota Corporate and getting nowhere, same replies saying contact Camelback Toyota again. This is after telling them that the sticky gears are very dangerous and even life threatening....they didn't care.

I called corporate next round and told lady my whole story from day 1 and she sounded floored.....gave me a case number and is referring it up to case management.

Its an $8 part + labor....just fix it already Toyota quit being a-holes.

Stevenson as in Jacksonville? I asked because I have mixed feelings about this dealership.

Has anyone purchased the part and did this themselves? Just noticed my vin was on the tsb but haven't had it long enough to see if it's a problem. Figured a $10 part was cheap enough to just do myself one weekend and not deal with the dealership.

"Technically" void it, I'm not sure. If you change it and it corrects a problem, keep it to yourself. If you change it and nothing changes, keep it to yourself. If you change it and it breaks, well what they don't know won't hurt them. Unless they can prove you changed it and what you did causes the problem I wouldn't worry about it. If it's simple I'll just change it myself, but if it looks like it's going to be a fair amount of work I'll just wait to see if it has the problem and have the dealership correct it.

Got the truck back dealership finally agreed to swap out the detent ball. Won't know if its fixed until I head up north again. I pretty much had to do what @Dannyblues did which is go back and forth between dealer and corporate.
