I have yet to see anything other than their 3.5 kit as well. I honestly think it is likely not advantageous for them to spend money to create that when they know TC already has an offering that is pretty solid.

If you go TC get the race kit unless you hate ground clearance

I think the sarcasm is necessary. How many times can you answer the same questions about 2" vs 3.5" kits and air bumps up front. I think the search button is very useful. Ask a stupid question get a stupid answer.

Hey guys, I was just checking out this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...bent-frame-and-broken-coilovers.504957/page-3

I was curious what some of you guys have installed on your rides so far in terms of reinforcement? This is my list so far that I want to install in time before any crazy driving.

    • Boxed rear frame
    • Coil bucket/engine cross bar
    • reinforced motor mounts
    • motor gussets
Just curious if I am covering most of my bases, or what other items I should def add to this list. Not expecting to gap a canyon with a 3.5 front and a DMZ rear, but if I do get some air, I want to be able to likely survive the hits.

@Coot83 what are your plans for the engine crossbar. I've been looking for awhile. Tim at Dmz said he only builds them if he has the vehicle. Ideas?

All of those are good but the best idea is to try not to out run the suspension on your truck and know it's limits. Trying to haul ass with basically oem 2.0 rear shocks and bunch of weight in the back will cause those problems. The shock couldn't dampen the hit so most of it was taken by the bump stop which also couldn't handle the hit transferring the load to the frame causing it to bend.

The problem with the c/o would of been just as bad if not worse if the coil buckets were reinforced. His mount on his front c/o broke because it's a poor design, on the bright side it may have same him frame damage up front as well.

Apprecaite your theory here man. I agree suspension a 3.5 kit can only take so much as well. That does give me some relief that my relocated 12's with a TC SUA might be able to handle a little more than his did. I still don't know why Icon hasn't moved away from that top hat design, I have seen a few threads about those type of failures.

Roll cage is hands down the best reinforcement. It makes the entire truck flex less and drives completely different, it doesn't just save your life it gussets the whole chassis. Its amazing how much the frame flexing and deflecting affects the suspension, and when everything is solid how much more you can feel the suspension actually work

For other reinforcement I did pre 4-link

    LCA mounts
    UCA mounts
    engine cage
    motor mount perch
    motor mounts
    transmission mount
    box inner rear frame
    outer frame plates
    spindle gussets

Post 4 link everything is gusseted, and I mean everything lol. Even my carrier bearing mount is boxed now

Im thinking I will likely have a fabricator do the work as unfortunately I got almost no time behind the gun and would feel better with someone who has experience make it. I do wonder if Tim ever would consider making some sort of template with final locations being for the welder to decide in case there was frame shifting from the factory.

Hell yea man appreciate the advice here. Holy shit that is a lot of work, but def needed or else...

I assume you have gusseted UCA and LCA mounts? I know after I get another DD I def want to cage this...gonna be a while for that one though.

Yep, I completely boxed my lca mounts with 1/4" plate and gusseted the UCA/shock mounts and tied in to the engine cage. Its been about 3 years since I aligned my truck and steering wheel is dead center and drives perfect straight down the road
