Chrome or Black??

Hey guys, I just bought a black 2017 Tacoma and am slowly making mods to it (being a dad and husband I can't drop a lot of money on it like I could on my previous vehicles). Being stock it's got a chrome grill, chrome side steps, and stock wheels. When I get the money I'm def putting on black wheels and I originally wanted to change the grill to black. I just put on a black bull bar and it actually makes the chrome grill not look so bad now. I'm not a huge fan of chrome even though on my old black '97 Tacoma I had a chrome tool box. My question is what kind of mixture should I have of black and chrome? I'm not a huge fan of chrome but I don't know if a black truck with every accessory being black would look good either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Old guy here. I think chrome on a shiny black truck really looks top notch. Black wheel might look good if they are high gloss. IMO, black matte wheels look like they are just dirty with brake dust or a cheap rattle can paint job. The best would be shiny black insets on chrome rims.

 

This is normally my stance, but the only thing I like less than chome stuff is a murdered out ride. All black everything I just can't stand. Just my opinion....

Looks real good. I thought about paint but my brother-in-law did that to his Tundra and within a few months it was peeling off. Thanks for the idea though!

 

That's my opinion exactly as well. Problem is I got one shot at this. My biggest fear is I'm gonna buy something, put it on and say "that looks like crap"

Thanks for the advice. I forgot that on top of what color I have to decide between glossy and matte haha. I'm not a glossy kind of guy but you may be onto something with the wheels

 

BLACK!!!! matte of shine your choice. but black. no chrome. plus its tedious and repetitive to keep looking nice

I chose matte but im in a silver truck and wanted the contrast

There is nothing sexy about the Ridgeline. The Ridgeline is a mini van with a bed.

 

True Story

 

If you thoroughly clean surfaces before paint it will last a while, my bumper and wheels have been painted for over 15 months with zero peeling yet. Agreed, for the long run, purchasing black wheels and bumper may be best, I may do that eventually.

 

Black. Chrome is never a good idea on any vehicle.

 

It's so weird. No one under about 60 likes chrome but all the car companies put chrome everywhere on almost all the models. I think because all the people in charge of stuff are old. I wish I could just get a car with zero chrome on any surface.

 

Chrome is the easy way out. Some companies are starting to get it. Toyota did when the optioned paint matched bumpers on the TRD Off-road, Wasn't available last gen.
Chevy has been doing it lately with their Z71 trim Silverado's. But yes there has been to much chrome for far to long. The truck market isn't for old guys anymore.
