Had been working with case managers for months. I don't really care that much, will just buy a different brand next time. Toyota's loss

hey guys... drove my 2017 off the lot two weeks ago. been digging in here to find as much info as i possibly can about all the TSBs and recalls going on. Its hard to find stuff in a 130 page thread, and over 150 in a different thread. so i have a few questions.
    - Should i be concerned with having low tranny oil? (or did they fix it with the newer production 17s?)
    - My diff isn't leaking any oil (granted i only have 300 miles on it. but ill keep an eye one it)
    - Is there a TSB for hard shifting from R-D and D-R? I found something about it but couldn't get any details.
If i should take my truck in for any of this, is it expected to get turned away with a "its supposed to do that". Or are there documents i should find that will give me a leg to stand on? (I found the one about the procedures for a leaking diff that was sent to the dealerships). is there something like this for the hard shifts from d-r and r-d? same question with the low tranny oil.
Should i take my truck into the dealer to have them look at the tranny oil?
Is there anywhere i can plug in my VIN and see if any of the shifting updates were performed on my truck?
sorry for the questions, just want to be armed if i need to proceed in the near future.

Hi patch. How is your truck running? How is your transmission shifting?

Lol hi. I think I have the harsh shifting from D-R and R-D. Thought it was normal but then I found info on here that it's an issue that can be fixed. As for shifting... I have no complaints. I just sold my 12' that had front and rear armor, skids, sliders, topper, RTT. And it shifted pretty bad for all the weight. So this 17 feels fine to me haha

I'd just drive it for a while before you make any decisions about the transmission....I'd wait at least 5,000 miles.

It doesn't bother a lot of people....Almost a personal preference.

If you have the harsh shifting from d-r and vice versa, take it to the dealer, insist they manually check your transmission fluid (manually only!), and have them flash the latest software for your engine and transmission.

      1. Thanks for the info. I've been plagued by a similar issue.

On the highway the truck will downshift into 4th and hang there. No matter what! I can release all throttle and just feather the gas and it'll still hang and not upshift. I could hold 4th until redline if I wanted. Cresting a hill and starting downhill wouldn't even allow an upshift. I either had to wait and wait or just flip it into sport and upshift it.

Freaking crazy. I love the truck but Toyota has completely missed the boat with this transmission / motor combo. I'm glad our '16 4Runner still has the 4.0!

    2. My 2016 Tacoma does the same. Brought my truck with the trailer and SXS loaded and made them do a road test with me to show them. They still managed to say it was "normal" for the truck. What a joke.

The TSB, both the original and the revision, should completely resolve this issue.

other than the towing issue it seems to be ok. mpg towing just this trailer empty drops by 4-5 mpg and it searches or hangs and wont upshift. if it does upshift it starts decelerating immediately until it downshifts again then rinse lather repeat rinse lather repeat. they really need to get a grip on this with these trucks. other than the tranny its a nice truck.

Just had the TSB applied to my 2017 DCSB (built 11/16) during my 5k service visit. Issues I observed were gear hunting on inclines and intermittent hard shifts 1st to 2nd.

What symptoms do you have after the TSB was applied?

@gearcruncher do you know of any headway made on the AC60X valve bodies? I plan on reaching out to Sonnax to see if they are exploring any correction paths for the AC60X valve body (i.e. Zip kit, end plug replacement, etc).
