Mild lift/wheel recommendations

Hey everyone, I've had my '17 DCSB MT Off-Road for a few weeks now and am LOVING it--really a nice upgrade from my '04. I'm looking for recommendations for a mild lift to clear slightly bigger tires but am completely overwhelmed by options. Price is somewhat of a factor but I don't mind spending $$$ for something high quality that will last. I'd like to get rid of the slightly ass-end-high look, so ultimately I'd like to end up with a couple inches in the front and maybe an inch in the rear. How high can I go before I start to run into alignment problems with the stock control arms?

For tires, I'm thinking either 265/75R16's or 285's but am leaning more towards the 265's to keep mileage reasonable as this is a daily driver. Will stock wheels be OK or will I need to go with something that has more backspacing? I'm really liking the way bronze wheels look on the quicksands so if anyone has any recommendations on those also, I'm all ears.

This is mine, very pleased and if skipping the ECGS bushing it's only about $600 in parts.

 

Recommend the 6112/5160 for up to 2" of lift. The 6112 come with new coils and beefy shocks. They will improve front end performance and handling on and off road. The rear 5160s are valved to compliment the 6112s.

The 3-leaf Progressive Add-A-Leaf pack really helps keep the rear end stable on washboard and rough roads at higher speeds. You can leave the overload leaf in for 2" of lift or remove it as the instructions recommend and gain 1.5" of lift in the rear. See my 6112/5160 write up linked in my sig block below. I give feedback and my reasons for going with this setup, and it sounds like our rationale may be similar.

 

If Smitty's lift meets your budget and isn't overkill as it would be for me, recommend that over my consideration.

 

Kings with compression adjusters all the way around. Smitty's add a leaf in the rear along with sumosprings. You'll love the ride and be able to dial it into your like with the adjusters.

I have the setup listed above minus the add a leaf pack, but looking to change that in the future with either an add a leaf or full leaf pack.

If you can, ride in some trucks with both progressive and digressive valving. I tried digresive and hated it. Made my decision easy to go with progressive kings.

Ultimately, the further under 2K (parts, I'll be doing my own labor) with tires the better ... but there is some fluidity to that number.

The OME comes with a complete new rear Dakar pack as well.

Should be able to get lift and tires for about $2k and no goofy blocks.

 

I thought the 5160s were only good for 1.5"? When I did my 2G lift I was really on the fence between the 5100 and 5160 and what swayed me was the concern the Icon AAL with the TSB springs would put me somewhere into the 2.0 - 2.5" area and outside the range even with the overload left off. DownSouth claimed the 5160 was a 0-1.5" shock. Granted, I don't know what the Icon AAL adds to the 3G truck since it's already got a 4-leaf in the back.

That being said, if they've re-rated the 5160 for up to 2", that would be my choice as I was very pleased with what I had on my truck. The 6112 wasn't yet released when I did mine, so I had the 5100 / Eibach 620 coils and was very pleased.

 

I agree on the ass end part, get it outta the air. You're not trying to present.

Toytec 1/2 spacers in front, leave the rear alone.

 

I'm personally going with the Kings with adjusters all the way around, 700lb springs up front, and a Low Range Off Road 1" block in rear for now. Not even sure what I want in the back yet, and likely won't decide for a while until I have a chance to really wring this thing out off road. Too many options! Dakars, AAL, Sumo's, Firestones, etc., etc.

Kings aren't the most cost reasonable option, but I have them on my Gen1, and really like the way they perform, so I'm sticking with them on the Gen3. I'm sold on them for my style of driving.

I'll be going up about 1.5 to 1.75 in front. Not planning on UCA's right now until I see how alignment numbers come back. At some point I'll go UCA's up front just to get the extra inch of down travel and get the internal stop out of the Kings. But again, want to wait to see what alignment numbers look like with stock UCA's and 1.5 lift before I start shopping UCA's again.

OP has a doublecab and might carry passengers frequently.

People here always build trucks based on what they look like parked and empty. Imagine what they'd think when they see how a "levelled" truck looks on the road with passengers and a small load in the bed. Here's a hint, it's not level anymore and looks like shit as in the suspension looks collapsed.

But then if you're driving around in a truck with an empty bed all the time to maintain level, why do you need a truck in the first place?

If op has to chauffeur a dozen people, his rear end sags minimally. When I load my truck (hint!- it's not loaded with quads, busted ass fridges, and thousands of dollars worth of "overland" refrigeration equipment") it sags zero. Besides. A little bro lean never hurt anyone. And is more pleasing to my eye than "please take my truck from behind, it's in heat"

You're entitled to your opinion as am I, just showing the OP the other side of the coin with "levelled" trucks and why it's not always a good idea.

You never know what people here try to do but if that were the case, he bought the wrong truck anyway, he should have bought a Tundra as it can tow the space shuttle.
