Went in for the 10k service, dealer filled the oil about an inch over the top bump on the dip stick. I've already driven about 1500 miles since. Is my motor toast?

Don't ever let those damn dealer wannabe be tech dipstick's touch your vehicle.

I would quickly park your truck, let the engine cool down significantly. Afterwards drain about a quart of oil then check the dipstick and see what the level indicates and go from there. (in other words if the level indicates within the dipstick markings then your alright, if the oil level still indicates over the max marking then continue to drain, etc. until dipstick level indicates normal)

Hard lesson to learn but next time change the oil yourself.

Good Luck and hope everything turns out fine.

Take the truck back to the dealer and advise them of the issue so it can be documented in case of future catalytic converter failure.

Let is sit on level ground for about a half hour with the dipstick pulled all the way out. Check the oil then and see, you'll be able to see what the level is for sure. Sometimes mine will show high when it isn't.

dont just drain the excess oil out.
what if they didnt drain the old oil and just added?
now you have mixed old/new oil.
drain all the oil out and try again.

I wouldn't do shit myself. I'd first call them and make record of it then go straight back there and have them fix it. Get the paper trail started.

No, better yet, he should have never gone to the dealer to get the oil changed.

It doesn't matter how many "free oil changes" they offer, just don't go, stay away!

Because sooner or later you'll come to regret it.

I TOTALLY agree with your statement...

On My 2006 Taco, I purchased "Toyota Care", which is about 4 oil changes, I think.... Not Free at all....
Anyway... the first change....I checked the dip stick, before leaving the dealer.... showed way over the full mark....Talked to them... they said they use a metered hose to put in the exact amount and that the dip stick is not all that accurate... OK I left.

Next oil change...same thing.....This time I pulled the stick and let sit in their lot for 15 min. Checked it...way over-filled....!
I demanded they remove the excess right now.... they did....

I never went back.... The next change was by me... I added the exact amount and guess what.... the level was dead on the full mark as it should be...!!
Those stupid grease monkeys will never see MY truck again..... that was 12 yrs ago..!

As long as I can crawl under my vehicles....I will be the only one ever to do an OC.

That said....some people don't have the skill to do it, the tools to do it, the space that allows or they simply want to take advantage of what Toyota is offering free of charge.

Those folks should not have to worry about stupid stuff. That's a shame.

I am going to go back and tell them its over filled. I just wanted to make sure my engine doesn't blow on the way there. Bummer, I already filled out the survey from corporate.

Yes. The first thing I did was throw away the free oil change junk - on each Toyota I purchased. I love getting under the truck and doing my own PM/service work. I know it is done right the first time without any of this: oil on interior, oil spilled on engine, oil overfills, oil under filled, or worse yet: no oil at all. Plus the added benefit of no dents or scratches that mysteriously showed up after a service. You see stuff like this posted on forums all the time. Makes me fell better I am able to do my own work. Sorry about this issue OP, you will have to make a decision to drain it out yourself or bring it back in and hope the same ya-hoo can do it correctly this time.

95%+ of consumers here do not change their own oil. If you can't trust the dealer to do something so mundane and simple then what do you do when you have a warranty issue? If the dealer service is this incompetent, across the board (which I don't believe it is), then I would simply avoid the brand.
