    She was 8 or so in this pic. On the way home from the vet after getting her laceration checked out.

    A few months ago one of my little senior dogs was attacked and we had to put her down because the attacking dog broke her neck. (Story here, it's a tear jerker: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/lets-see-your-dogs.2844/page-853#post-15330293 )

    Well since then I've just felt lost without her. It isn't so much that she's gone but more of the fact that she was taken away from me and didn't get to live out her old life like my other dogs have. It really has been eating away at me inside since the day it happened. I've vented and everything I can to try and release some of that pain/anger I have from loosing Chloe and nothing has helped. I've been sleeping worse than I normally do and I just don't have any motivation to do anything like I used to. Even with having 4 other dogs something just felt 'out of place' in my life.

    On Friday I was browsing a neighborhood website where people post garage sales, lost dogs, cars for sale, stuff like that and someone was giving up a senior dog. At first it made me upset as the dog was 14 years old and they were moving and couldn't take care of it. I sent a message to the guy asking why would someone just give up on her and a ton of other questions. I spent a lot of time on the phone with the guy who posted the ad and the lady who had the dog asking as many questions that I could think of and understanding why she's being re-homed at the age of 14.

    Long story short, this dog has been shuffled around the family for almost her entire life. She was with this lady's daughter who left her in a crate for the majority of 6 years (homeless, in and out of shelters, etc,etc). She didn't get to walk around or come out very often. Grandma stepped in 2 years ago and took the dog and fostered her but Grandma is 81 years old. She couldn't do much for this dog and her health went downhill super fast. She's moving out of state to go live with family so they can take care of her.

    I showed my wife the picture and with in a split second she said "Lets go get her!". My wife has been feeling the same pain as me with our loss of Chloe. I told my wife "This dog is 14 years old, full of health issues I'm sure, and might not live more than a year or two." She didn't even bat an eye or let me finish the sentence "So what, she needs a home, lets get her!". My wife really has a huge heart. We made the call and setup a time to meet the dog and have her come into our pack and see how she gets along.

    Saturday I spent the afternoon with the dog, Cinnamon. The pic of her looked exactly like my little Chihuahua "Nippy" so I already had a soft place in my heart for this senior dog. Her name is Cinnamon and Cinnamon is faaaaaaaat! About 6lbs overweight. Her teeth may have never been brushed and her skin is so dry and itchy. The dander is just wow, her nails are super long, she's half blind and very hard of hearing. She's got a lot going on and at the age of 14 there is no way anyone would adopt her from a rescue or shelter. The wife and I gave her a nice long bath, trimmed her nails, got her some allergy meds/lotion. Her teeth are so bad all of them need to be extracted as it's causing her a lot of pain and there wasn't any point to try and brush them. Well after a few hours of pampering her and making her feel better we just fell in love with her. She's super sweet and needs a good life. I feel robbed that my Chloe was taken away from me but for some reason this just feels right to me. I get to take a dog and let her have a good rest of her life as we are going to make up for the years of neglect she's been through. It's going to suck for my wife and I knowing this dog will only be around a few years and then we'll have to hurt again from loosing another dog. But it will be totally worth it changing her life for the better.

    She's going in to her first vet appointment in years (if ever) this afternoon for a full checkup and I am having every test they can run on her done. I'm hoping she'll come back with "she's fat, she's blind, she's deaf, and all her teeth need to come out. No other issues than she's just old". So keep send some positive vibes her way and wish her luck that her vet tests come back normal!

    And without further ado, welcome to the family Cinnamon. I hope you are ready for the best times of your life!!!

    The first pic I saw of her:

    This is great. Glad you found a way to take some of the hurt and turn it into love for this older gal.

    :fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed: for Cinnamon.

    Pretty sure I know which one instigated this massacre.

    EDIT: Security video showed they were all in on it.

    Don't take this the wrong way, but I love your wife! You're pretty special too. Good on both of you.

    I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. Your dog got an amazing 16 years of life with you and that's what counts.
