Scheduled Maintenance (2nd gen) - 30,000 - 60,000 - 90,000 miles

So i just got quoted $770.00 + tax for my 60,000 mi. service?! Is my dealership just batshit crazy? I plan on doing most of it myself and using my grandpas shop to do the rest... No way in hell I'm shelling out that much haha

That's a good way to put it! Save yourself over $600 and spend a few hours and learn some things about your truck. That's what this thread is all about. I'm getting ready to do it myself but at 70k. The plugs at 30k still looked almost new and the diff oils for me looked good at 60k but I did change it at 30. Just really need to check it and top it off, then every 50k or so depending on driving. I did the brake fluid around 50k plus front rotors and pads it wasn't too bad. probably should flush the PS fluid. Will do the plugs and filters. I should be able to do what I got in 2-3 hours or so and spend >$100. Don't forget to grease the Driveshaft(s) every 15k at least. I'm on the fence about TB cleaning. My truck runs great and hasn't lost any MPG's except for maybe the tires and my local driving now.

75w-90 did you use to do both differentials?

 

About 3 in the rear and 1.5-2quarts in front. You'll need 5 quarts total. You'll have about 1/2 quart left or a little under.

Just did the major service yesterday (30/60/90?) I replaced the plugs with Iridiums. (I know this is very controversial but my research said go for it) Got them at rockauto.com for about $6 ea along with all the filters. Got a 5qt jug of M1 oil at wally plus the half qt I already had and did the 30k service at 70k (diff oils were topped of at 60k and looked fine - changed all at 30k). So the plugs had 40k on them and were worn down quite a bit, but looked pretty good as far as a/f. The gaps ranged from 0.46 - 0.5 but it ran fine. I waited till 40k because at the first change at 30k they looked fine. Took my time about 2.5hrs for everything, making sure the plug change was done correctly. They were gapped at 0.40 right out of the box so I didn't touch them and on the box it said not to re gap them. Fired right up. Idle settled down just like normal after warming up and runs perfect. I will check one or two 30k from just to see but happy to know I probably wont have to do that again since my mileage is below 10k/yr now and I'll most likely be in something else by then. Here a couple of pics. btw cabin filter was a mess - need to do that more frequently since I like to off road. Air filter wasn't too bad after 20k.
** One question I have for everyone: What kind of oil consumption would you consider normal? I measured what came out after 5k mi and it was 4.5 qts. I put in 5.5 about 8 mo ago - so 1 qt down after 5k mi. Seems okay to me and I've never had to top it off between? Cheers.

 

The "maintenance required " light just came on on my 2015 v6 6speed Tacoma with 46k miles. I just bought it and I am not sure if it is for an oil change interval or a possible repair.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks

Time for oil change. Goes off every 5,000 miles. google "how to reset maint light on tacoma" it'll give you step by step answer right on the browser/google page. I do it every 5,000 miles (plus my own oil change).

 

That's what I thought. I appreciate the feedback. I bought it from the Nissan dealer a couple of weeks ago. They serviced it, or at least put a sticker indicating that the changed the oil. I guess they didn't reset the light.

 

Light will start blinking at 4500 then stay solid at 5000

 

Ok so I have a question. While I was doing my Oil Change and greasing the Drive Shaft today I was doing some looking around. I am getting ready to change my front and rear differential fluids. So the question is, Is there actually a drain plug on the underneath of the rear diff?

No, the severe gear doesn't require an LSD addictive.
