Carpet removal

i have a 2004 crew cab that I just got...it is beyond nasty inside....the carpet is at the point where I don't think it can be cleaned properly inside the truck...so I am thinking I would be better off to remove the seats and just take it out and clean...it would seem that this would just be a matter of removing the seats and then the carpet, pressure washing and cleaning it and reinstalling?
Are there any unknown hang ups or obstacles or hints or pointers?

The pointers that I can give is go slowly if you put in new carpet... you will have to trim it and the trim points around the center console and where the seats / seat belts bolt in become a hassle, there is much room for a trimming error. You might want to think about some additionl padding while you are at it... it quiets the cab and insualtes it at the same time.

Just did mine a couple of weeks ago. A good pressure wash will really clean it up. In addition to the seats, you will need to remove the sill plates, seat belts(bolted to the floor), center console, kick panels, center post panels, etc. I would recommend that you also removed the panel behind the rear seat, and add Frost King to all the panels and floor. It really cuts down on road noise/tire noise. I did my doors and roof panel as well. Cost was about $100 in materials.

For the inside of the door, the cavity where the glass goes down into, I used this. http://www.homedepot.com/p/USEAL-USA-4-in-x-66-7-ft-NonSkid-Roof-Tape-USEAL-8872NF4/204194240 This is tar based, with foil, rather than foam. Smells bad, so I would only use in that cavity, which is not open to the interior. I thought that since it was petroleum based, it would be better in a somewhat damp environment, and not promote any rust. For the part right under the plastic door panel, I did use the Frost King.

Since I had almost all of the interior out anyway, I went ahead and pulled down the headliner, and applied the frost king to the roof panel.

 

My house just flooded and some of the water got on my vinyl floor kit. So I'm thinking insurance will give me money to purchase a new one. I can sell my other one for cheap if your interested. It's vinyl so it should be good to go. The water shouldnt have affected it at all.

 

I'm going to dye mine black like I did in my 2nd gen. Having light colored carpet in a truck is like having light colored carpet in a daycare...

 

How did the carpet dye work out for you? I'm thinking about it in my 2nd gen. Any tips or advice you could give on the process? Does the dye have an odor like spray paint? Was the dye coverage even? Thanks!

 

That's an awesome idea, adding the Frost King. I'd love to do mine someday.

Is there any availability of replacement (pre-cut) carpet for the first gens?
