So are the shims separate from the CV drop? Where do they go exactly? And what degree should I get if I get them? (1.5" AAL)

I saw some on Wheelers under the Misc suspension parts section. They had all the extra parts there (Bolts and stuff)

Some do both carrier bearing drop, and shims; some just do one or the other (should only need to do one or the other; doing both could go too far and also have a negative effect). They both try to accomplish the same basic thing. When you lift, your pinion will be aimed slightly downward in relation to the drive shaft angle. Lowering the carrier bearing helps to line them back up... or angling the pinion back upward slightly helps to line them back up. The shims go between the leaf pack and the axle (to rotate the axle, which will rotate the pinon).

Isn't there something about a diff drop for the front that I'm missing? I have a 4wd.

No. Nothing to look into there. You don't need it.

There's several threads here that discuss u-joint angles. It's worthwhile to search and read.

    For example:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/drive-line-vibrations-explained.371130/
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/driveshaft-angles.465292/

You want the angles to be right though the driveline, which doesn't mean necessarily eyeballing the pinion to point up. The transfer case and pinion need to be parallel, each u-joint needs to be asked to spin through an angle of 5* or less, all the u-joints & yokes need to be in phase.

When you lift your truck the driveline angles may change equally if the springs are made correctly and you don't change the shackle length. So if you get a vibration it may not be a mismatch of angles that would require shims. You have to measure things to know for sure.

Suffice to say I did not put in shims initially and ended up with just a carrier bearing drop. I personally do not like to use axle shims if I don't have to. Rotating the pinion up means you need to overfill your axle slightly to make sure the pinion bearing stays in the oil bath. I burned up a pinion bearing once in my old truck not realizing this.

All-Pro also has a great leaf pack which ... was on sale till the 8th but the add is still on their website so I'm sure they'd honor it. Or wait till Black Friday... it's right around the corner and you may be able to get some discounts on your parts if you can wait a month.
