Best portable jump starter?

Does anyone have recommendations for portable jump starters? Also, where do you keep yours in the truck? I have an Access cab and not much room left to store one.

I have a Noco GB 70 and love it. Easy to use, can charge phones/tablets as well and holds its charge for quite a while. Nice peace of mind for $100.

 

I bought one at Costco. I have never had to use. So I hope it works well. Its small enough to fit in my glove box with all the bits and pieces. I found this one self discharged at an unacceptably fast rate, about 2x the Amazon cheapo I bought to compliment it. Returned it.

I've had very good luck with this one. Going on 2+ years and it still holds lotsa charge.

A little spendy, but it works great. I've jumped half a dozen stranded people, as well as myself. It also powers my laptop directly and has a couple USB outputs. They have smaller units available too.

I keep mine in a pouch attached to my MOLLE panel behind the rear seats. However, during the summer, I keep it out of the heat and in my laptop pelican case.

 

When you say self discharge do you mean it loses charge just sitting in the case?

 

Yes. All Lipo batteries self discharge at around 5%/month but I found the Costco one was much faster. I would suggest checking the charge level.

I have tried 3 different brands (jackery, ravpower, dbpower) of portable jump starters. All of them work surprisingly well to jump start car/truck batteries. In the past I carried around those huge "portable" lead acid jump starters and the new lithium ones work just as well. You can also purchase a separate ec5 to 12v converter to power any 12v device from it. No problems powering air compressors/pumps.

NOCO GB40's - one in the Tacoma and the other in the wife's car. Ordered the

$300 GB150 : 3000A UltraSafe Jump Starter – 12V Lithium Battery Booster Pack, Portable Jump Box, Power Bank & Jumper Cables - for 9.0L Gas and 7.0L Diesel Engines

GB150 for my other truck. So far I have only used the GB40 to jump-start one car and it did a great job. Every few months I will bring them in and discharge them some and give a fresh recharge. Better than messing with jumper cables and taking a chance on frying your electronics or someones elses. If you keep an eye out on Amazon, eBay, or some other sites you can find some good deals.

 

Same here. GB 40 and a 70. One for the Taco and one for the Rubicon. No complaints. They had a flash sale the other day on Amazon for the Noco. Grabbed the new one for me I love it so much and passed the old one down. I use it more on random stuff like the motorcycle and family vehicles, but worth the peace of mind knowing it’s there.

 

I have that one.
Used it to jump start my brother's Saturn. Seems to hold a charge well and provides enough power.

I've got a car rover brand 1000a. It's the older version they used to sell on Amazon. Got it around Christmas of last year and fully charged it then. I've jump started about 10 cars with it and haven't charged it since. It's around 50% charge still. It's been great and was only $65-75 iirc.

My Noco GB30 only lasted around 18 months ... a piece of s**t in my opinion (and yes I did follow all the instructions provided with the unit). I will not be buying anything else from this company.

 

I have a simple Jump N Carry (

$128 JNC660 1700 Peak Amp 12 Volt Jump Starter , Blue

JNC660) that I bought last year. I like how you can charge it either by a wall outlet or the 12V port in my Jeep. The 12V port comes in handy to power my CPAP when I go camping.

It may not be an option however since you're looking for something small. It's not litho based either, so that may/may not matter. I'm able to run my CPAP for two straight days before having to charge it back up.
