6” lift pros and cons (no smart asses please)

alright, I know there’s already threads on this but most are old and full of asshole comments.

2014 DCSB and I want to make it taller.

To answer the question in your head, no, I don’t crawl or jump my truck. And no, it isn’t just a mall crawler

I want a current and genuine debate on why it is or isn’t a good idea to go with a full 6” lift

There really is no debate or anything " uncool " about a 6" lift with a prerunner. Since you are 2WD you can easily do a very high quality 4-6" lift using Maxtrac spindles and high quality coilovers. For the back purchase a good set of deaver or alcan leaf springs and again some high end shocks that are the correct extended and collapsed length to support what the new leaf pack will cycle.

 

Your truck is a prerunner. Get spindles, UCAs, and a set of coilovers in the front. Leaf springs and shocks out back.
6" of lift without a drop bracket.

 

I agree, spindle lift with nice coilovers and you will have a sick ass setup.

agreed with the others.... dont do the DB lift on the prerunner.... its pointless when you can get spindles that do the same thing but better.

 

Some good advice for a 2wd lift here already so I'll throw in my 2 cents on the negatives. If you're prepared to take a hit on fuel efficiency and loss of power associated with larger tires and a lift I say go for it. Whats your reasoning if you don't wheel but say you're not building a mall crawler? What kind of non-pavement driving will you expect to see?

Bottom line is everything you do to the truck will have it's pros and cons, but in the end, it's your truck and what works for the bro down the block might not work for you for one reason or another. Do what you want and be happy.

 

Right now I have 3” front and 2” rear spacers. The truck is from California so all of my off-roading was desert and I blew past 4wd’s. I don’t expect any missing or crawling but a Prerunner can hold its own down most trails I’ve been on from my experience. I want to be able to go up to 305/70R17. Yes, whatever I do will be primarily aesthetic but I refuse to let my baby be called a mall crawler

The db lift kits will severely cut your turning radius. And be prepared to lose the sway bar. The links they give you with it squeak their asses off and it drops the sway bar rediculously low. The spacers make the ride shitty. If you really want a db lift save the money and get some custom coilovers from king and a custom leaf pack to make it right. Ask me how I know.

He has a 2wd so he does not need a drop bracket to get 6" of lift...did ya' read the rest of the replies ?

 

One negative I will point out of the taller lifts is overhead clearance (garages and things like that)

I am a huge advocate of spindle lifts as they are the easiest way to get a good looking lift on a 2wd truck without any headaches

Not trying to be a dick here but no, no he did not ask about a drop bracket lift, the term drop bracket was never used in the thread title or the op's post ? I think you saw " 6" lift " and just assumed that drop brackets were being discussed.
