I read they wont do the rear leaf packs on the OR models? How much did you spend to get it shifting correctly? I didn't post this thread to bash tacomas but that's how some are taking it, I would love it if there were permanent fixes for these issues. I would very much like to keep the truck and just fix the flaws.

What's so hard about S-Mode, you select S4, S5 or S6 by bumping forward or back depending on what gear you want to limit without pressing a clutch.

The automatic still works right, does yours not shift up or down by itself? Or do you think the truck should know automatically what gear you want to be in with every circumstance? Automatics by definition select gears that they think are best for the application, not what you think are best. If you want to choose what's best instead use S-Mode, that's why it's available.

You can try to change the mapping with an aftermarket tune, piggy back component or combination of both to see if its more to your liking or sell it and move on to something else.

I had that same shuddering when breaking. Both leaf packs replaced, drove off said wtf, it's
still there, went back to service, he went for a ride, agreed with me. I told him it felt like bad
brake drums, he agreed, found them to be warped and replaced both - no more issue.

Never had a shifting issue so I can't speak on that one. Try ECT
mode and see if that help you out.

Its getting bad, Im almost broke.
Here’s my .02. I had the shift sense and felt it still didnt make up for the poorly designed engine/ trans combo. I still wanted to light my truck on fire after a short road trip. I re-geared my truck to 4.88 gears and it fixed the issue 100%. No stupid shifting points and my power is back. Thats all i can suggest.

Remember when CR said this truck was not recommended and people lost their minds over it...

Not sure of your point, people are free to not like something and choose something else.

Personally I would hate it if everyone drove a Taco.

A lot of members here freaked out when CR did not recommend the Tacoma... I don't know, maybe got their feelings hurt? But point is everyone was out there talking shit to defend the Tacoma, but looks like CR had valid points for their rating. With that said, I would never consider the alternative from Chevy/GMC, but that doesn't mean i'm a huge fanboy either. Every time someone starts a thread about issues they're having, it worries me that my Tacoma will have the same thing. I had my clutch pedal and assembly replaced at 5K...

Midsized truck has never been a good choice when comparing what you get for the cost. Why spend fullsize money and not get full size capabilities? Even used Tacomas cost as much as a new one.

People buy Tacomas because they want a Tacoma even if it might not be the best truck out there for every job.

It's marketed for resale, reliability and the ability to go offroad, not for being "fun to drive".

CR looks for value for the dollar.

many of the issues i just read could have been avoided if you had a manual..i've always found if its an auto you're going to have transmission issues

You've got two choices. 1. Grin and bear it, and accept that the truck is "different", and like it for what it is, or 2. Get rid of it, because if you can't come to terms with number 1, you'll go insane.

Actually the new Tacoma has about the same tow rating as an early 2000's half ton. Not much smaller either. As fullsizes constantly go "bigger and bolder than anyone has bigger and bolded before" that is what is drawing me to a midsize. I don't care to try to experience the thrills of docking an oil tanker by trying to park a new half ton.

I kinda think as the fullsizes keep growing the midsizes are becoming what the old fullsizes where.

I think his was constructive, and alternative #2 may be the only alternative for OP given it does not appear that he likes the "fixes" that have been posted annnnd reposted.
It's not a bad thing, sometimes people just want to be told " it's ok " to do what they really want to do. In this case it looks to me that's what OP wants.:notsure:

The sensitive brakes in the morning is normal. The rotors are getting damp from dew which causes them to be grabby. Once they dry off they return to normal.

Should get the OV Tune to help with the transmission. And for whatever it's worth...the guys who designed the transmission logic didn't care how it drove. Their only goal was highest MPG which I'm sure they achieved with respect to time/funding allocated to that aspect of the vehicle design.

I still say get a shift sense before a tune. If you still hate it with a shift sense you’ll hate it with a tune.

Honestly didn't like the way my truck drives from the beginning but trading it or taking a loss was not practical for me so just had to live with it.
Then I purchased the OVT tune and just couldn't be happier...
Completely different truck now and I love driving it as I smile every time.
The other day I was in a situation where I needed to avoid someone who drove into my lane forcing me to take action. Unlike on the past where my truck hesitated and almost got me hit, it responded instantly and safely got me out of the way. Can't say enough good thing about how it's worked fo me personally...
