Hi Forum members. I wanted to make everyone aware of the issue with 2012 Tacoma Air Injection Valve and Pump Assemblies. These parts are defective in that they allow water into the unit, seizing it up and resulting in warning light and loss of engine power. This was a known failure in Tundras resulting in recall replacement with new part design to eliminate the problem. Toyota while acknowledging the issue exists with 2012 and later Tacomas, has NOT initiated a replacement recall. The replacement of these units will cost you around $2,000. Yes, I said $2,000. Do not call the "customer experience" number and complain or request reimbursement. They will, as in my case, politely acknowledge that while you have owned 8 Toyota trucks and 1 car over two decades, decline to reimburse you for the cost of the parts and labor charged by the dealership to replace the parts.IMG_3581.jpg IMG_3581.jpg IMG_3581.jpg IMG_3581.jpg IMG_3581.jpg IMG_3581.jpg IMG_3581.jpg This is unacceptable. I have filed a complaint with the NHTSA regarding this issue. DO NOT purchase this year of Toyota unless you can confirm with the dealership that the part has been replaced. Request the service record confirming the same. Good Luck!

Tell me about it. I feel for anyone without the resources to pay for these repairs. What if I were a struggling college kid or single parent, how would they pay for this to get their vehicle back. I couldn't get over the la-de-da attitude about my just having paid 2,000 for repair on veh with 60,000 miles.

I suggest getting one of these unifilters (linked below) and take out the crappy foam filter inside your pump since you have a 2012, before it causes you problems

Edit: looks like you already ran into this problem.. id still install one for cheap insurance going forward

Hi all. Wanted to let you know that after very little deliberation Toyota has opted to reimburse $0. of the over $2,000 I paid to replace the air injection valve assembly and pump. While they acknowledge this is a known problem, unless and until it escalates to a recall, they will continue to take your hard earned money to replace a part they manufactured improperly allowing moisture to damage the components. On the up side, the dealership did offer a free oil change and auto detailing. I am fairly certain they know where they can stick that.

How many miles on yours? I'm sure it'll be a more common issue as the mileage gets up there since it's the same problem as Tundras.

But guess what, that's why I'm not buying another new Toyota! Well, other issues they don't address correctly
