For some inexplicable reason, this past year I’ve used 3 drivers side CV axle inner oil seals.

    Well, it’s actually easily explained.

Seal 1: Removed CV to replace torn boot. Replaced the original 12 year old seal.
Seal 2: Replaced Seal 1 after noticing a leak a week later. I apparently installed incorrectly.
Seal 3: Replaced Seal 2 during the regear and ARB front locker.

    Got some fresh spares:

Thanks @diabetik81 for the great deal on these.

question for you Lloyd.. since my driver side hub destroyed itself (not sure if this happened before) but my brakes have been soft on the first push. I recently bled the brakes, and only the one that had dirty fluid was the driver side. Could it be related to the hub?

I’m not sure David. If I advised you anything, it would be a SLIGHTLY educated guess. Especially brakes.

    I trust @Wheelspinner, @HolyHandGrenade, @Sub-Zero and @stairgod with stuff like this.

I don't see how the hub could have affected the brakes :notsure:

Dirty fluid is either cooked, or full of water, and I would guess water. I would also guess a small leak that is sucking air and moisture back in.

I'm going out on a limb here but the only thing I could think is the bearing being bad cause the hub, rotor, wheel and tire to lean in at the top causing the rotor to put constant pressure on the pad and that heated up the caliper to the point that the fluid got discolored. But the bearing would have to be hella whooped for that to happen and still it's just a theory. Could also be a crazy coincidence.

Have you checked the adjustment of your rear drums lately, that will affect pedal travel quite a bit too.

This. Rear drum adjustment has had the most effect on pedal travel for me

I cooked my brake fluid when my WB went out when I was driving home the rotor was in contact with the pads. Melted my wheelspeed sensor or whatever too haha

After that was all fixed the pedal was much more firm, but new drums and shoes made my pedal feel back to normal

Yea the "self adjusters" don't always work. I usually check my adjustment a couple times a year

Have not checked the drums yet, but 68k miles warrants a check.

Did you cook yours as bad as @Nimble9 ?
That would explain the dark fluid.
Truth, and it only takes a few clicks to be soft.

If soft on the first push, then it's good, check the pins and the grooves the pads sit in. In my experience with this situation the pad is not "floating" freely.when you hit the pedal the first time the pressure forces the "sticking" brake pad against the rotor losing that slack/gap makes the pedal feel normal.

Both are not a good sign. I had the abs once when I ripped the passenger rear on a tree and second time when I hit the brakes at a stop and it was 7 below which recovered when I pressed the pedal a few times. Never both.

@inesshell told me to wait until the bearing is replaced before I replace the sensor. It might right itself when all is well with the hub/bearing

Yeah. I would suggest the same, not because I'm an expert, but when you start replacing stuff at the same time and it gets fixed, then you start wondering, what the hell fixed it?

For the WB I removed the sensor pretty early on and it looked chewed up.
