I have a 2016 TRDOR and am looking into putting 285/75r16 tires on it. If l do add the larger tires I will do a king or icon lift. My main concerns is the stock gearing with the larger tires and how bad it will affect my gas mileage. The only aftermarket gear set I’ve been able to find is 4.88 and that seems a bit low for 33s. Is it tolerable with 33s or does the transmission constantly hunt for gears? Big hit to mpg? (I know it will decrease, just don’t want to get stuck getting 15mpg.)

    Thanks!

If you are concerned about gas mileage, don't get 285's..

I have stock gearing and 285’s and I get about 13-14 mpg

I’d be fine with 17, my friends with 2nd gens and stock gearing with 33s can pull 18 hwy. That’s roughly where I’d like to be.

Blows my mind when people buy a truck and then want the most MPG's out of it..

It's not unreasonable to get the most of out any vehicle, it is unreasonable to expect a truck to perform like a car.

Go read that, decide you don't want to spend money on a lift, have 33s, lose a whopping 1mpg because rolling friction and physics.

Also, think long and hard and do your research when choosing between Kings and Icons, or any suspension in general. Kings seem to anecdotally need rebuilt sooner than most other high end shocks, will get eaten alive by rust if you live somewhere that salts roads (also a Fox issue from what I hear), and are...hella dough. Icons are digressive so evaluate how you like the ride of the stock OR suspension- the 4600s we have stock are also digressive, meaning they soak up high speed bumps better and low speed stuff is a bit more harsh. King's and Fox are the opposite- smoother at low speeds, more wallowy in moderate speed cornering, and stiff at high speeds. I believe the OME setup is also Progressive. I'm going to go progressive when I upgrade cause I live in Ohio and there's more potholes than road on most of my commute, but also because all the wheeling I get to do is pretty low speed crawling.

    First gen here...
running 33x12.50s and get about 16-17 mpg on stock 4.30 gears, 2.7L, and manual transmission. However, it’s far from fast.

You wouldn’t need to regear. Forget about gas mileage. And not to be a dick, my natural reaction when people mention Kings specifically it makes me want to roll my eyes, but I resist that urge because I’m not 16. Fox has been around longer and use better materials. Stick with the OG. Kings are great and all but when people fire off kings I usually think “trendy hype believers”

I think the King service interval is actually 50k miles and Icons are 30k miles. Just the numbers I got during my research when I called both companies.

People buy what they can afford and want...Fox, King, Toytec, ADS, etc, etc. Trust me, it's not the eye rolling that makes you 16

Forgot to mention, if you can afford kings you can afford fox. Duh.
