Home made bed rail cleats.

Can someone point me to the thread that I've seen before in here where a member made some home made bed rail cleats or what ever they were? I want to make some but now I can't find the post.

 

There have been a couple of guys who have added d rings under the bed rail for more tie down points. Haven't seen anyone who has made their own cleats.

 

Not really home made cleats... but was this what you were thinking of?

Go to granger or fastenal and get TECO part # 41406 T Slot Nut 38/16 X 9/16. I bought some, 5 were less than $20 and I had them within a week. Then go to home depot or lowes after you get them and find either rings or hooks or bolts, whatever attachment you want that screws in them and you are good to go...

I put a couple of o rings on some and made a mountable box with the others. Pretty handy and relatively cheap. and my actual bed cleats are safely locked in my truck.

one tip, spray them with WD-40 because they can rust.

3/8" × 2.5" eye bolt, 3/8" fender washer, steel spring nuts (found in the electrical section at Home Depot). Place the steel spring nut in the channel, put the fender washer on the eye bolt and thread. The steel nut will angle a little in the channel when tightened. Very secure, unloosen to slide where you want it in the track. The spring gives the nut a little tension. Far superior to the stock Toyota plastic. Should work awesome!

Dead thread but does any company make something like this anymore? My Tundra cleats were useable but went to use the one on my Tacoma for my snowbiking... don’t think I would trust them with much of a load.

Thanks a lot! They don’t ship to Canada for some reason so I sent them a message. Should be a lot sturdier than stock ones and not have to worry about people stealing them as easy?

I modified some 5/8 carriage bolts for a Male attachment point, I use the T-nuts for somethings as well.

Angle grinder + vise makes easy work of them.

 

I like using the spring nut/square washer combo myself (https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/82610510). It seems to be much easier to utilize.
