    All,

I am picking up a 2018 TRD PRO at end of this month, this will be my first Tacoma, I have been waiting for months and I am getting really exited:yay:

I would like to upgrade factory 16" setup and get beefier tires and 17" rims. I would like to keep my factory fox suspension so below are some of my questions, I appreciate your feedbacks.

    1. Could I use the 4runner TRD PRO rims part# PTR2035110BK? I found it for $182.23 shipped, is this a good deal?
    2. What is the biggest KO2 that will fit without a lift?
    3. I was told by my dealer that they can't put a lift kit on the Pro, but they have done many using Pro Comp on the off road. Why is that?

Welcome and congrats on the truck.

    Yes the wheels will fit.
You will be able to fit 285's but may have to trim plastic and do a CMC.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean about not lifting the pro. I would never put pro comp on my taco ESPECIALLY a pro. It may have something to do with the safety features on the pro. Or the dealer isn't authorized to do it from the factory since pro comp is an "upgrade" on the off road and sport but not on the pro since it comes with fox.

    Hope this helps.

They can't put a lift because of Safety Sense, which is new for 2018. It messes with the angles of the radar. The 4R Pro rims will fit, they are 17x7. An other option are FN Wheels, they look very similar but are 17x8, way more wheel options in that size.

Wow! You guys are fast, thank you so much for your prompt replies! Sorry I’m new to this, what’s FAN wheels, is this a brand? Do you guys think 285/70/17 KO2 will the stock PRO without a lift?

Sorry, auto correct changed it. FN Wheels, they make a repro of the TRD Wheel but in 8 inch, lots of guys here have them

I believe it's just FN wheels, but yes it's a brand. They make great wheels too. Yes they should. It's always a little truck dependant. Again, maybe a CMC or plastic trimming but the pros come lifted off the line.

Biggest tire size you'll be able to fit without trimming/CMC is 265/70/17, a 285/70/17 will rub.

    1. I have no idea. Really, if you're spending ~$40k on a PRO, what's another $1k for rims? If that's what you want, go for it. I also wouldn't get a PRO, but I'd sure as hell be willing to spend $1k to get my SR5 looking the way I'd want it.

    2. Are you going for tall or for wide? Tall tires in most cases are best for overland purposes -- see https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/put-255-85-16s-on-stock-or-wheels-and-suspension.491079/ -- for a tl;dr, you should go with a 255/85/16 KO2 set for no rub, but about 2" more tire, meaning 1" more lift over factory. I went with 235/85/16 KO2s. They look awesome and were a good compromise and much cheaper than the 255s.

    3. That's probably from the new features on the 2018. Some of the safety nannies are new on the 2018, and lift may or may not mess them up. There's posts on here saying that dealers won't modify 2018s because it changes safety features, which could lead to a lawsuit. The forum, at the time of this post, is still generally unsure if the lift actually will mess up anything. The general consensus is no, but I don't think anyone's actually lifted a 2018 yet, so it's all speculation.

Anyways, if you're replacing the suspension, CANCEL YOUR ORDER and buy a TRD OR, saving yourself some money. The cosmetics are cheap and the Fox suspension on the PRO is arguably worse than a Fox Level 2 kit (which is ~2k).

Nothing's wrong with a PRO! But, if you're going to do suspension, change rims, or tinker with it, it just makes no sense to spend that extra money for it when the TRD OR has all those features!!

I hear ya. I agree... Especially since you can get leather with the 18's but then again I wouldn't buy an 18 at this point.

I have Clazzios on my SR5. The install was 2 beers and 1 evening, nothing bad at all. The cost to add leather covers was cheap relative to adding any higher trims, and if they wear out, replacement is cheap too!

I agree about the '18. I'm glad I bought my '17, I feel like I bought at the right time.
