I have a 2017 TRD OR DCLB with almost 1,500 miles on it. I have not modified anything yet, and I actually tend to drive it like a grandma sometimes haha. My point being that the miles it has on it are all easy miles.

Anyways, I have noticed pretty much from the first couple days of driving it that the speedometer needle likes to twitch and bounce up and down a few mph randomly for no reason at times. There is no particular speed that I'm aware of that causes it to happen, but I think it happens more when I'm going faster (highway speeds). And when I use cruise control it seems to be a little worse. Not a huge deal, but definitely annoying and something that should not be happening on a brand new Toyota.

I have not looked into what would need to be done to fix the issue yet. I'm hoping it would be something simple because I would rather not have to have the dashboard taken apart to get it fixed. Does anyone know anything about this or has anyone had the same issue in a 3rd gen?

    Thanks!

The only fix is the replace the gauge console, the vehicle must stay while they get the new part with the mileage of old console same as the new one, should be covered by warranty. Ha dthe same problem on my '16 dcsbor

How long did it do it before it stopped? Mine does it every time I drive. I was hoping it would stop on its own, but doesn't look like it will

The other day, mine was 10 mph faster than what I was actually going. stayed that way until I turned off the truck and started it again. I took a video.

I hope if I have the whole damn instrument gauge cluster replaced, I don't start having additional different issues then. I feel hesitant to take it in now after reading about other issues, but the ticking needle is annoying.

I almost want to delete my account on this forum...

I keep thinking all these quirks are normal and then...."take it to the dealer and they willl fix it"

Unreal the issues these trucks have,,,

The dealer scratched my cluster really bad the day I got it... I was going to live with it, but now I'm gunna harp at them because my needle twitches pretty bad sometimes..

    I'
m starting to lose faith in this Toyota product.... This is why I bought a Toyota...!! I didn't want to have to get things fixed all the time.

This is the type of thing I worry about, the main reason I hesitate to take it in to have anything done. I bought this truck brand new and I intend to keep it as flawless as I can because it is my first brand new vehicle. I really don't want to get any scratches or scuffs in the interior from some tech. who isn't being careful. The only thing aside from some really minor surface swirl marks on the L/R door, is a scuff on the door panel below the speaker on the driver door. Can't see it with the door closed, but still made me mad when I saw it. My truck had to be traded between dealers, and they had to drive it like 150 miles to deliver it. So someone scuffed up my door with their foot I guess.

If I take it in for this I guess I will have to explain this to them before I give them the keys and get them to understand that I don't want any interior scuffs or scratches. And I'm sure ill sound like an asshole, but hey this truck wasn't cheap

That's just it. 9 times outta 10 the service advisors and techs have a shitty relationship and they don't tell them, or the advisors just get ignored.

I'm due for new leaf springs at 8000km as per the vibration "defect"... Now a cluster...

The tech that diagnosed the problem seemed a bit disgruntled.. Like he likes to throw things when he gets mad, so I won't be taking it there...

He was an asshole... I asked him questions about the problem, and he said I'll tell the service advisor and he can tell you... So the service guy couldn't answer my questions so he went and got the same tech... He was very irritated he had to deal with a customer..

And little does he know, my occupation requires me to have the same skills, but different, but he thinks I'm an idiot...lol

    the place pissed me off.

Skip the service advisors. Call the service manager or even the operations director, tell them what is going on and briefly explain that you don’t want the bad attitude tech you had last time. They are the ones over those people, and often will take care of you much better and will assign a good tech to your vehicle. I now do this for my runner, and my stuff gets done right. I’m happy, they’re happy because they get good reviews, all is well.

This is a good point. I'm definitely gonna need to talk to the service manager and tell him how I expect there to not be any interior scratches/scuffs after they do any work. But I still expect there to be something that they will just deny or they will brush off as not a big deal. Maybe I am too picky, but this is a brand new truck and if I am trying to care extremely good care of it, I expect my dealer to help me out
