    Yeah, I know. These newer vehicles are a joke. For the most part. You want to see a real piece of trash? Check out a new Kenworth or a Peterbuilt. They should be embarrassed. Cars and trucks are much better but still can't take the abuse of real steel and cast iron from the 70's. That old stuff didn't last near as long and required a whole lot more maintenance than this newer stuff but it would take more abuse. If they could only mix the two together.

    Last but not least. I really miss that Caddy. That was the best, most enjoyable vehicle I ever owned eventhough I had to wrench on it all summer so I wouldn't have to touch it all winter.

    I will admit though, that this Taco I own now is better, far better, from a reliability standpoint as well as a maintenance standpoint. As a matter of fact there is no comparison. I have to "think up" things to do on the Taco. It never "needs" anything. But it ain't no Caddy nor a Lincoln from the old days.

    Those cars from the 60's and the 70's had a "feel" about them that is long gone. Never to be experienced by the younger generations growing up now. Unless grandpa gives them such a vehicle. They didn't "handle", they didn't stop real quick and they didn't accelerate real quick compared to the vehicles of today. They just had that "feel" which will never go out of style.

    Nothing went down the road like that Caddy did at 90mph.. Except maybe a Lincoln or a Chysler Imperial of the same vintage. With all this new electronic "safety" crap that just gives everyone a false sense of security I never felt "safer" in any vehicle I've ever driven or owned than that '73 Caddy. The semi's I drive these days scare me to death with all their "safety" garbage. Thank God (and I'm not even religious) that I own a 2004 Taco without all the deadly "safety" electronic bullshit. I'd like to buy a new vehicle some day but am afraid to.

    That is no joke! I remember the beating my old man put his trucks through growing up. That 84 Chevy was a solid unit and he slap wore it out. It had well over 300k on it when he bought a new one in 2004. I put 264k on my 2005 Dodge diesel and just broke down to buy a 17 Ford Super Duty, talk about electronics, it is overloaded with them. Don’t get me wrong it pulls better and quite a bit more comfortable to drive, but there is a sensor on everything that has a flat enough surface to put one!

    Everyone now days will be lucky to get 10-12 years out of these new vehicles.

    I've thought about a super duty myself but I don't think I'll be going with a diesel when the time comes even though I could really use one and want one. The DEF, DPF and EGR have pretty much ruined the diesel engine. They are fine when they are working ok but when something goes wrong it's like owning a boat. Bring Over Another Thousand. I drive diesels for a living and these news trucks don't go more than about 90 days without a trip to the shop because of emissions and all the idiotic electronic crap on them. These things have problems I never even imagined could be problems.

    I hopped in mine one night. Stopped at a inconvenience store down the street and when I got back in it the interior lights wouldn't go off. Since you can't drive like that I had to turn around and head to our shop. It turns out these new semis have 3 computers in them. One of them didn't want to talk to one of the other ones so we had to disconnect the batteries and wait 45 minutes for everything to reset itself. I won't even get into the garbage automatic transmissions they are putting in them or the Automatic Emergency Braking that slams on the brakes for no reason at all and disables the cruise for no reason at all. Nothing like having "Hal 9000" hijacking control of your vehicle when ever it feels like it.

    I’m on the FB and online forums and read quite a bit. I willing to bet 1/3, or better, of the people who come on do full deletes within the first two months of owning one. I got the extended warranty on mine but won’t bock in the blink of an eye if a dealer tried to make me pay for some emissions BS.

    Like you said about the computers, I opted for the less amount of sensors I could. I didn’t want the lane change, front impact, 360 cameras etc. Way too much going on now days that I can’t work on.

    Used MT 90 while installing the shift kit and it’s all back together. I should have done this a long time ago. Shifting it so much better. There wasn’t any rubber bushing left and the stock nylon shifter bushing was wore way down and was shifted up toward the top of the shaft.

    I would recommend this to anyone with high mileage shift linkage.
