I wonder if it can be done for the steering wheel audio controls for people like me without them ??????

 

I know there is a decent sized amp attached to the sub in the back. I don't know if there is another one, but it appears to be the correct size and wire count to drive the other six speakers.

The amp and sub arrive as a paired unit in a handy box that tucks behind the 60 portion of the rear seat on the right side.

 

If you look a few posts up, I posted an exploded view of the steering wheel. Highlighted is the part number you will need to order. Keep in mind that you WILL need to change your steering pad if you don't have any controls as the two pads are different sizes.

I got me the Pioneer DEH-P9800BT with built in bluetooth and I also have the SWI-PC...I am planning on doing this same exact mod...too bad Pioneer doesn't support the voice command yet...any chance you know when they will have a interface or software to support the voice command?

 

Great work! Anyone know of a H/U that does support the voice command button? JVC/Alpine/Kenwood maybe?

It seems I was wrong in thinking that Pioneer did not support the voice control function through its steering wheel interface. The latest version of the SWI-PS, ver 1.68, claims to infact support this function. Therefore one could conclude that it was the old version steering wheel adapter that limited this functionality.

Just got 2010 DC with the LB, SR5. No JBL. I wanted the Blu-Logic system that is shown on the Toyota site and in the owner manual. When picked up the truck it had a Parrot Bluetooth How's that for a bait and switch? It has a stupid wire coming out of the dash and is taped to the dash. I didn't take on payments of a new truck for taped on components.
The Dealer ship is either stupid or lying or both. They have been no help. I was told that the trucks comes with the parrot system. Now it's the system with the buttons near the fog lamp switch. Anyone know what is suppose to be installed for this option on a 2010?
I might just have to do it myself. Any try this with the none JBL system? Any info would be great. If I end up doing it I will post the results.

As far as I understood if I'm going to add BT keyboard to my steering wheel and replace mirror for the one with microphone my 2010 taco access trd is going to get everything necesary to carry out conversations and connect to my cell?

 

I have a 08 taco with Jbl system and recently upgraded to the 09 HU with XM. Everthing on the new unit is plug and play except for the BT. I am wondering if by purchasing and connecting the LH controls will activate the BT in the HU? Any ideas?

Thanks to PSUnick's help, I/we can confirm the SWI-PS ver. 1.6.8 does support the voice recognition/control function on my Pioneer Z110BT. I might add that you need to make sure the ribbon cable is firmly seated into both button pads until a definite click or pop is felt. I did not do this at first attempt and the buttons did not work, but they did light up when the parking lights were on. A couple of PM's to PSUnick and we were able to zero in on the problem. When complete and working, the voltage readings between the white wire and ground were as follows when the buttons are pressed:

None pressed, ACC on 4.86v
Vol up 1.77v
Vol down 3.13v
Track/Preset up 0.00v
Track/Preset down 0.76v
Mode 1.16v
Hang up 1.62v
Answer 2.29v
VR 3.32v

This a great mod for anyone else considering doing this.

 

PAC has Tacoma specific instructions on their website here. Attached is wiring diagram I sketched up when doing mine for a Pioneer unit. On the sketch, on the left is the SWI (labeled PAC). I show the white, red and black wires being used consistent with the web instructions. I soldered the resistor to the white wire and then to a green (GR) wire I had left over (didn't have any yellow with black stripe lying around, note the strikethrough). Then spliced the green into a yellow with black stripe wire (Y/B) from the factory taco harness which went into pin 8 on the factory connector. I used this post as confirmation of the wire colors and pin numbers from the factory. Then I soldered a purple/white wire (P/W, I had some of this) to the PAC side of the resistor and spliced it into the purple/white wire going into pin 7. I spliced the red wire into the red wire (IIRC) going to the HU. I grounded both the PAC and the wire from pin 6 (white with red stripe) to an existing ground point on the dash from the factory (don't know what was being grounded there, but it was convenient). I also grounded the HU to this point as well. PSUnick says the ground of the PAC and the pin 6 wire to a common point is critical. Good luck.

 

Ok so the way I understand this is if I have the SR5 package with audio controls (non jbl) and a z110bt I just buy those toyota oem parts and a swi-ps and I dont' have to do any wiring to get the bt right hand side controls to work with the z110bt. Just install them and plugin a ribbon cable?

 

ya... you will need a pac steering wheel control unit as well (swi-ps). Thanks to psunick ive ordered the same parts with good results. I will also confirm that the lights in the control don't match to the audio control side. Still looks and works good. wondering if there is a different part number with closer matched lighting.
